Description:
The Security Officer maintains a safe, secure, and peaceful environment. This position guards, patrols, or monitors premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules. This position is an entry-level, unarmed security position.
Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, patients, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises
Conducts routine rounds of all assigned Centra property areas to assure every patient, staff member and other individuals that Centra property is safe/secure
Enforces applicable hospital policies, rules, and procedures
Writes and completes occurrence/incident reports regarding incidents that occur on Centra property involving patients, staff members or other individuals and Centra property
Calls police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons
Circulates among visitors, patrons, or employees to preserve order and protect property
Patrols premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensures security of doors, windows, and gates
Operates detecting devices to screen individuals and prevents passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas
Answers telephone calls to take messages, answers questions, and provides information during non-business hours or when switchboard is closed
Warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using force when necessary
Uses a variety of communication and security techniques on patients and visitors with an extremely broad range of atypical behavior in order to diffuse crisis situations
Assists other officers at designated locations
Handles radio calls, as well as pages and requests for assistance on all departmental related matters
Observes and monitors mental health and other high-risk patients to maintain a safe environment
Provides notary public services
Ensures identities of, log in/out, and/or release bodies from the morgue, funeral home, and in-hospital dead-on-arrivals (DOA)
Required Education: High School Diploma / GED
Preferred Experience: Basic computer skills: Ability to use Word and e-Mail and navigate the internet. Keyboarding/typing skills
Required Certifications and Licensures: Become a Notary Public through the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia within sixty (60) days of hire. Successful completion of a two (2)-day educational program for Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within three (3) months of hire
Preferred Certifications and Licensures: Satisfactory completion of forty (40)-hour basic security training course established by the International Association for Hospital Safety and Security (IAHSS). Become a Special Conservator of the Peace (SCOP) through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Service
