Responsibilities:

  • Provide security services to the university campus by patrolling, locking, and unlocking buildings, enforcing and/or reporting violations of law, university policy or guidelines per policy & procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies by assessing the situation and employing tact, diplomacy, and individual judgment to remedy and/or maintain control of the situation, contacting appropriate local law enforcement or emergency authorities as needed. Some cases may require guidance from the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police.
  • Investigate complaints, suspicious activity, and accidents. Prepares detailed written offense/incident reports.
  • Deter individuals attempting to commit criminal acts.
  • Raise and lower flags in front of the Administration Building.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisor and other campus officials as required.
  • If necessary, appear in court regarding incidents that occur on university property
  • Provide crowd and/or traffic control during scheduled activities and/or emergency situations.
  • Admit authorized personnel, with appropriate identification, to locked buildings.
  • Observe and report faulty and/or unsafe utility equipment, including the report of fire and other safety precautions when necessary.
  • Maintain and improve job skills and knowledge by attending training courses, classes and/or seminars.
  • Provide basic information and directions to university personnel, students, and the general public.
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested
