Description:
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Experience in road, sidewalk, and drainage system construction, maintenance and repair.
- Working Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater systems.
- Willing to attend and obtain training and certifications as needed.
- Must also have a Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
- Occasional weekend work is required
Responsibilities:
- Supervise operations and maintenance of the Public Works Department
- Supervises, estimates, plans, forecasts, schedules and assigns work through the relevant work order systems.
- Maintains and monitors department equipment, vehicles and inventory.
- Oversees and ensures seasonal preventative maintenance and grounds maintenance as needed.
- Assists Department Manager in preparing annual budget.
- Works collaboratively and provides support to the Housing and Lands Departments as needed.
- Works collaboratively with internal ‘Namgis First Nations Departments to ensure adequate reporting and accounting processes occur pertaining to Public Works.
- Works collaboratively with the adjacent municipality and regional district to ensure good order of infrastructure and service agreements.
- Oversee and monitor water systems including wells, underlying water infrastructure and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
- Assist in Employee performance reviews.
- Assess and analyze drainage issues, road and sidewalk safety concerns and other traffic related issues. Make recommendations and or take decisive action to make repairs or remedy emergent situations in a cost effective and efficient manner while trying to minimize disruption of service or risk of liability.
- Provide training to staff as needed.
- Purchase and maintain equipment as needed in cooperation with the Department Manager.
- Coordinate and oversee work orders with external vendors.
