Publicist, Blue Ant Studios
Blue Ant Media’s Communications team is looking for a Publicist to support the global media company’s award-winning production studio and rights business, Blue Ant Studios. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with proven written and verbal communication skills, great press relationships and has an ability to juggle multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail. Reporting to the VP, Global Communications, the candidate will have dotted-line stakeholder relationships with Blue Ant Studios’ VP, Marketing and Brand Strategy and senior executives within the Studios group. The position is based in Toronto.

Core Responsibilities & Duties

  • Work with Communications and Marketing teams on the creation and execution of strategic and results-driven trade and B2C publicity plans
  • Execution of key Blue Ant Studios announcements, including greenlights, renewals and other company news. Responsibilities include writing and routing releases; aligning announcement plans with marketing and company-wide PR leads; and corresponding with press and industry stakeholders
  • Provide Unit publicity support on select Blue Ant Studios productions, including photography selection, writing and distributing press kits, production notes, overseeing on-set media opportunities and managing unit publicist relationships, when applicable
  • Pitch and secure trade and B2C interviews, features and review coverage with national and local media, including broadcast, print, podcasts and online blogs and sites
  • Support broadcast, streaming and festival partners on Blue Ant Studios premieres with B2C publicity tactics to promote viewership of our series and documentaries on their platforms and at events, in partnership with Studios marketing
  • Play a key role in preparing Blue Ant Studios executives and producers for trade press interviews, panel discussions, and PR appearances, while managing the delivery of materials to support these projects
  • In partnership with the communications and marketing teams, establish and uphold relationships with our partners and their PR teams, in addition to talent, talent managers, talent publicists, executive producers and executives
  • Manage/oversee the creation and delivery of all PR deliverables for buyers, co-producers and partners, when needed
  • Serve as lead on awards campaigns for assigned series and films, while also packaging and submitting all applications
  • Cross departmental relationships with production teams, distribution sales, business affairs, marketing + creative teams and divisional PR leads company-wide
  • Creating and circulating regular PR updates and press clippings to key internal stakeholders
  • Special projects and ad-hoc duties for the Studios on a case-by-case basis

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or similar discipline is preferred
  • Impeccable writing ability, paired with a solid understanding of the television and media industry across distribution and production; Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • A team player, who is a collaborative, positive and a supportive colleague
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of non-internship professional experience in a media relations role; Key relationships with trade television press and consumer facing outlets
  • An ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with good judgment
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, and work proactively in a fast-paced, high volume, creative and deadline-oriented environment with the ability to react with appropriate levels of urgency to situations and events that require quick response or turnaround
  • Proficiency with remote working technology (Teams, Zoom, Google Hangouts, etc.) required
