Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Purchasing Agent must assess what products the company should sell, how much of that product should be purchased, and which supplier best fits the company?s needs. The most important aspect of this position is the ability to understand the company?s needs and then use that knowledge to help the company be more profitable. To do this, the Purchasing Agent must study and identify trends in the marketplace and the general supply chain.
Assessing prospective suppliers is another critical aspect of being a Purchasing Agent. The Purchasing Agent must ensure that suppliers can fulfill the supply requirements in a timely fashion, while maintaining a quality product. It is the Purchasing Agent’s job to guarantee that the company is getting the best deal possible when contracting with a supplier.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must be able to learn and correctly perform processes in Great Plains and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be willing to sit at a desk in front of a computer for 8+ hours a day.
  • May be required to travel to shows for extended periods and work weekends.
  • Must have good communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Shows a high level of accountability for product, performance, and personal responsibility.
  • Analytical Skills - You will be working with multiple vendors to determine the best deals for your company and will have to evaluate the many pros and cons of each, based on price, quality, speed of delivery and other factors.
  • Decision-Making Skills - You will need to use the information you have gathered to make decisions on behalf of your company.
  • Math Skills - Basic math skills will be needed to analyze prices and get the best deals possible.
  • Negotiating Skills - You will be working with suppliers to create the best deals. Negotiating skills will help you create those deals.
  • Attention to detail ? Quality and organization are of the utmost importance.
  • TEAM PLAYER ? Must be able to work professionally with all departments and department managers and be open to constructive criticism.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with times of high stress and volume.
  • Ability to use good judgment and logic.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    Job Type: Full-time
    Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 40 per week

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Management to create purchase orders to buy items we build and sell from both domestic & foreign vendors
  • Create and maintain SKUs in GP for all items purchases and sold
  • Be knowledgeable of current trends in the Shooting Sports Industry to develop new sales items with Management.
  • Maintain all pricing levels, costs and margins for items being bought, made and sold
  • Work on developing new products and well as being able to trouble shoot problems and issues with current products
  • Find new sources of products that will enhance our products and save us money
  • Involved throughout the entire supply management process.
  • Maintain Order Schedules to ensure product is received when needed and not building up in inventory based on schedule usage.
  • Evaluate prior sales to establish future fulfillment needs.
  • Research suppliers and help negotiate contracts for product fulfillment processing.
  • Place orders and ensure inventory is properly distributed.
  • Attend tradeshows and conferences to stay abreast of industry standards.
