The Ideal Purchasing Manager will:

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies and improve existing purchasing procedures.
  • Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers to ensure cost effective purchasing decisions.
  • Work on partnerships with reliable vendors.
  • Audit invoices to ensure compliance with contracts.
  • Maintain vendor compliance documentation for quality assurance and/or insurance.
  • Process new vendor requests, lead times and pricing items in ERP system
  • Deal with complaints from vendors and resolve issues during purchasing.
  • Forecasts required purchase quantities based on inventory on hand, lead time, and expected consumption.
  • Determine minimum and maximum inventory levels for all inventory and consumables.
  • Schedule and track purchase deliveries, ensuring timely and smooth delivery.
  • Create purchase requisitions, obtain approval prior to placing supply orders and review outstanding purchase orders to ensure validity.
  • Monitor the quality of purchasing items.
  • Keep current with market fluctuations.
  • Ensure internal purchasing authorization policies are being followed

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Supply Chain and Management Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience, including a minimum of two years in a leadership role.
  • Working experience in purchasing or inventory controls required.
  • Working knowledge of food and meat plant regulatory standards.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Team-player with excellent leadership skills, able to motivate others, negotiate effectively, and interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical, with problem-identification and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work/excel in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential.
  • Demonstrated success in building strong, collaborative teams, setting stretch objectives, and holding people accountable for commitments with a track record of delivering favorable results.
  • Knowledge of process improvement tools.
  • Intermediate Computer Skills (e.g., MS Office).
