Description:
Applications are invited for a full-time, continuing opportunity for a Purchasing Officer to join the Financial and Registration Services team.
Reporting to the Director of Financial and Registration Services, the Purchasing Officer plays an important role in providing value, quality, and satisfaction in the delivery of efficient and cost-effective Purchasing/Supply Management services while maximizing the use of University funds. To be successful, the Purchasing Officer must have a complete understanding of purchasing policies and practices, trade agreements and other regulatory bodies, and ensure compliance by both staff and vendors, as well as promote and maintain effective relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Purchasing Officer include: assisting departments with purchasing requirements, alternatives and strategies; preparing and issuing Tenders/RFP’s/Service Agreements; reviewing, evaluating and awarding contracts while interpreting contract language; analyzing products and service details/specifications to make recommendations on the best purchase; verifying authorizations, ensuring proper coding, and approving purchase requisitions; negotiating pricing and conditions for systems/service contracts, assisting with vendor evaluations; building and maintaining relationships with wide range of stakeholders; collaborating with others to pursue and identify opportunities and industry trends; discussing and resolving situations with suppliers; ensuring compliance and fair, equitable and ethical practices in all dealings; and other relevant duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered, candidates must possess a post-secondary degree with at least three (3) years’ related experience in a similar role. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. While a supply chain management professional is preferred; consideration may be given to a candidate nearing the end of the program who has the required experience. To be successful, the candidate must have proficiency in MS Excel; excellent communication skills and strong problem-solving skills. Experience in the public sector environment is considered an asset.
Salary: This is a full-time appointment under the classification of Managers and Professional Officers IV (MPO-IV) with an annual salary range of $78,629.00 – $99,491.00.
