QUALITY ASSURANCE (QA) MANAGER – OAKVILLE, ONTARIO

Procor Limited manages Canada’s largest private tank car lease fleet and operates an extensive repair network across the country. Our fleet has grown to include more than 30,500 special purpose tank and freight cars. Procor also operates 27 repair locations servicing the petroleum, petrochemicals, plastics, chemicals, fertilizers and food markets.
We have an exciting opportunity for a knowledgeable Quality Assurance Manager at our Oakville, Ontario facility.
The QA Manager will ensure day-to-day quality control related activities are carried out properly and in timely manner with necessary inspection & test plans (ITPs), quality records, and other necessary documentation. The successful candidate will provide leadership, support and guidance to shop employees on the various procedures established for regulatory compliance and implementation of the quality program. This position is also accountable for implementing the Corporate Quality Assurance program in compliance with the AAR M1002 and AAR M1003 established standards.
This position reports directly to the Service Centre Manager and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director, EHS, Responsible Care & Quality.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Previous experience in railcar or railroad industry is an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Quality Control, Supervision and production or repair service facility.
  • Post-secondary diploma in engineering technology or management with exposure to quality assurance methodologies would be an asset.
  • Previous training in lean manufacturing, six sigma, ISO standards, and audits would be an asset.
  • Core competencies:
  • Inspection and testing;
  • Quality control records and documentation;
  • Non-conformance, root cause analyses, corrective and preventative actions;
  • Technical training; and
  • Calibration of tools and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of various measuring tools such as callipers, micrometres, gage pins, GO-NO/GO gages and NDT/NDE equipment.
  • Advanced understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerance, various root cause analysis methods, and statistical process controls.
  • Exposure to external and internal audits conducted by regulatory organizations, customers and corporate office.
  • Ability to multi-task and quickly shift priorities in support of production needs.
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer and communications skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality records such as, ITPs, QC sheets, and other relevant documentation are in good standing according to regulatory requirements.
  • Track, report and resolve quality issues in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Implement and oversee non-conformance program with pragmatic and process-oriented root cause analysis.
  • Follow up non-conformances with appropriate corrective and preventative action to address the root cause(s).
  • Establish, plan and implement technical training and NDT methods in the most economical way using the various training methods available.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Supervisor of Technical Training to re-train and update existing training and training tools.
  • Ensure compliance to standard procedures and all 24 elements of the Standard and Recommended Practices, Section J.
  • Establish, implement, and provide training for the Continuous Improvement program through all aspects of the operation. Monitor for sustainability through coaching and communication.
  • Be confident in decision making and be willing to push back on production staff when quality or workmanship standards are not being met.
  • Build effective working relationships with all departments and plant leadership.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
