JOB DESCRIPTION:

The QA Supervisor will oversee the quality assurance processes within our tortilla production facility. This role involves supervising a team of up to 10 direct reports, implementing and monitoring Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) policies on the production floor, conducting facility audits, investigating product issues, managing the retain sample program, writing QA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining a register of glass and brittle plastics, verifying equipment, and overseeing equipment inventory.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Must be exceptionally detailed orientated with strong organizational skills
  • Must have exemplary listening skills, a positive attitude and enjoy working in a team environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a quality assurance role within the food industry, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of FSQA regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in using QA software and tools for tracking and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.
  • Perform required testing of finished products, raw materials, and associated items.
  • Obtain and maintain HACCP certification within company guidelines.
  • Responsible for adhering to food safety and quality system requirements by committing to meet all pertinent regulatory, customer, and SQF requirements.
  • Maintain communication with other departments, management and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production.
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible, and accurate format, and completed with required information. Ensure all required information is documented in accordance with SOP’s.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and work safe practices, including wearing of all required PPE in designated areas.
  • Responsible for food safety, pre-requisite programs and food quality related to designated area. Report any food safety and food quality related issues to management immediately.
  • Responsible for QA direct report attendance, vacation coverage and scheduling.
  • Supervising, Mentoring, and Training of QA Technician Personnel.
  • Safety Chain and Product Specifications review and sign off forms.
  • Micro sampling – Assist with result entries into the micro log and COC forms.
  • Execution of swabs and/or air test plates – weekly and monthly.
  • Conduct regular facility audits to identify potential food safety or quality issues and areas for improvement.
  • Investigate product quality issues and specification non-conformances, determining the extent and severity of the issue and reporting to FSQA Manager.
  • Validation of equipment such as scales, moisture balances, infrared guns at least monthly.
  • Submission of gluten test samples twice monthly.
  • Execution of daily flour tailings analysis.
  • Manage the retain sample program, ensuring proper storage and documentation of samples.
