Quality Control Lab Technician

QUALIFICATION PROFILE:
- Minimum 2 year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to Accredited C.E.T, or related field.
- Minimum 1 year experience in concrete, aggregate, or asphalt industries.
- Prior field experience in concrete testing desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high degree of accuracy.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Demonstrated time management skills.
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Knowledge of CCIL Certifications, accreditations and procedures for concrete.
- Knowledge of CSA testing practices.
- Strong safety culture.
- Honesty and integrity.
- Accurate and detail oriented.
- Independent and resourceful.
Rate of pay:
- $29.50
Pre-employment medical including drug & alcohol testing, background checks consisting of employment verification, education verification, and a criminal record check may be required.

Results / Accountabilities:
- Responsible for concrete specimen samples for GVA through transport to durability testing.
- Reporting of results into data base and KPI trackers.
- Keeping CCIL and other certification logs up to date.
- Maintains the calibration and maintenance/servicing for all lab and field equipment and ensures records are up to date.
- Innovation/optimization trialing.
- Aggregate testing and control charting
Responsibilities:
- Quality control of ready-mix, through active testing of finished goods and its raw materials. Including all concrete durability tests as well as aggregate testing (grading, durability etc).
- Responsible for keeping and maintaining records and KPI performance inputting.
- Supports QA manager with mix performance, mix optimization, product solutions, through KPI’s.
- Promotes a positive safety culture; performs all work activities following all relevant safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to work long hours – weekend work as needed.
- Able to perform a variety of physical tasks, including moderate to heavy lifting, and repetitive motions.
- This role requires someone who can work with autonomy in a lab setting.
- Supports with the preparation, batching, mixing and testing of concrete mix designs and cement/cementitious materials (strength, slump, durability, particle size etc), ensures all materials are adequately stocked.
- Transportation of cylinders as per CSA specifications.
- Tracking and reporting FLRA’s and Environmental checklists.
- Reporting of all safety and environmental incidents.
- Contributes to all lab-related non-technical tasks including housekeeping, organization, data entry, and lab maintenance projects.
