Job Title: Quality Engineer Location: Nekoosa & Wisconsin Rapids, WI

Job Summary: As a Quality Engineer, you play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of product excellence and customer satisfaction. The Quality Engineer is responsible for urgently investigating and driving corrective action projects for site complaints and systemic issues. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining quality control processes as part of our Quality Management System (QMS). This role oversees quality for both Nekoosa Coated Products (NCP) site for carbonless paper and converting as well as the Nekoosa Converting Center (NCC) site for pressure sensitive adhesive coating and converting.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Minimum of an associate or bachelor’s degree Engineering (Paper Science, Chemical or Mechanical), Chemistry, or other related technical field preferred, but not required. Manufacturing experience in paper, coating and/or converting processes a plus.
Experience: More than 2 years’ experience in manufacturing with direct experience working within a Quality department and interacting with customers is preferred. Some supervisory experience a plus.
Travel: Position is based out of Nekoosa, WI with frequent travel to our Wisconsin Rapids site.

SKILLS:

  • Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel is essential).
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools, techniques, and software, including advanced Excel functions and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Minitab).
  • Effectively able to use CI Tools, e.g., Pareto, Waterfall, Histogram, and critical thinking tools.
  • Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and their data structures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to present complex data findings clearly and concisely.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights, including the use of SPC to drive consistency.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and integrity.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • A continuous learning mindset to stay updated with industry trends and emerging analytics techniques.
  • Experience with ISO9001:2015 a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Achieve and/or exceed a Quality Metric of > 99.6% for Wisconsin Sites.
  • Ensure our quality management practices are consistently administered and followed throughout the sites.
  • Lead customer claim investigations for the sites, driving root cause/corrective actions while providing timely feedback to customers throughout the process.
  • Through analytics, monitor trends and develop continuous improvement initiatives for systemic internal and external quality issues, reducing YOY impact.
  • Respond to and investigate customers’ technical and/or quality concerns per our customer response expectations.
  • Report out weekly to the organization on claim status and key events.
  • As part of our management review process, develop, collect, and report quality performance data of key metrics, including Q-Metric performance, customer claim history and plant corrective actions as well as the effectiveness of our QMS and opportunities for improvement.
  • Inform departments of all quality non-conformances that are tied to their department, working as necessary to facilitate corrective actions.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, product development, engineering, and supply chain, to ensure seamless communication and coordination in maintaining and improving product quality.
  • Document and formally report all quality complaints monthly, including claim status and steps taken to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Manage MRB process for the sites. Ensure proper lot status control, disposition and follow-up as necessary to clear quality hold material within allotted time period.
  • Develop a robust knowledge of products, application, and end use processes.
  • Write and implement procedures and process flows for job duties and specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
