Description:

HUMELINK WEST PROJECT

Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the ~140km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.
HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.
The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Electrical Quality Engineer ensures that electrical installation and commissioning activities comply with project specifications, regulatory standards, and contractual requirements. This role involves quality assurance, inspections, and coordination with construction teams to achieve defect-free project delivery.

  • Implement and enforce Quality Management System (QMS) standards for electrical works.
  • Conduct quality inspections and audits of electrical installations, including transmission line stringing, substations, grounding systems, and protection systems.
  • Review and approve ITPs, test reports, and commissioning procedures for electrical works.
  • Ensure electrical work complies with AS/NZS standards, TransGrid specifications, and project technical requirements.
  • Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) and ensure effective resolution through corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support factory acceptance tests (FATs) and site acceptance tests (SATs) for major electrical equipment.
  • Verify cable and equipment installation, terminations, and testing for compliance with approved drawings.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing Lot and Workpack documentation related to electrical quality assurance.
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams to ensure proper energization and system integration.
  • Support handover processes and quality documentation compilation for as-built records.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical quality engineering within transmission line, substation, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 7000, ISO 9001, and electrical commissioning standards.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, inspection, and commissioning of high-voltage systems.
  • Strong experience in ITP preparation, NCR management, and quality documentation.
  • Familiarity with TeamBinder, Synergy, or similar QA tracking systems.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with experience in root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and coordination abilities.
