The Quality Engineer (QE) plays a vital role in the development and manufacturing of products by ensuring they meet required quality standards before reaching the consumer. The Quality Engineer is responsible for conducting inspections, testing procedures, and internal audits throughout product development and testing of finished goods. During these processes, the Quality Engineer records and analyzes results to determine whether to certify or reject specific products. This data is also used to solve production issues and recommend improvements.

Education/Experience:

  • University degree in Engineering or technical field experience
  • Registered or able to register with APEGS
  • ASQ or equivalent qualification is highly desired.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using quality measurement tools, processes, and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Familiar with supplier processes, product audits, process audits, and inspections.
  • Continuous Improvement - LEAN training and certification is an asset.

Accountabilities:

  • Prioritize product concerns by working with cross-functional teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Collect and analyze data trends to proactively control quality rates and assist in building a robust QMS.
  • Investigate concerns, perform root cause analysis, and implement resolutions in accordance with the QMS.
  • Perform, document, and create measurement inspection reports on finished products. Communicate reports with cross-functional teams to eliminate any non-conformances.
  • Support the new product development team with quality audits, design reviews, and work with suppliers to develop defect-free products.
  • Follow documented processes and standards, and update systems as part of a continuous improvement commitment.
  • Create FMEA and develop Control Plans, provide training, and build zero-defect products using process controls.
  • Interpret inspection sheets, work instructions, engineering drawings, or schematic diagrams and communicate with production, management, or engineering staff to define and update the applicable quality and reliability standards or documents.
  • Provide fast decision-making ability to resolve production issues and keep production on track.
  • Maintain the calibration system and perform designated calibrations per internal procedures.
  • Participate in the Material Review Board process for discrepant materials.
  • Complete other appropriate tasks required to maintain an effective Quality System.

Physical Efforts:

  • Time split between an office setting and various areas of the manufacturing plant.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.

Physical Environment:

  • Work in potentially hazardous environments requiring protective equipment.
  • Exposure to dust, odors, fumes, and high levels of noise at times.
  • Long periods of standing, crouching, or sitting.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
