Description:

This Quality Lead role for embedding Martha’s Rule across Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust will transform patient safety and experience to promote patients as partners in care. The successful colleague will be a significantly autonomous clinician, who would like the development opportunity to focus on a Quality Improvement project that would give the valuable knowledge and skills to progress from a Band 6 to Band 7 or from a Band 7 to Band 8a.
The post-holder will be responsible for embedding the work for Martha’s Rule into business as usual in all Divisions within the Trust and will offer a unique insight into acute adult, paediatrics, neonates and maternity care.
This is an NHS England funded project and offers the successful applicant a secondment for 12 months full time or 15-20 months part-time for a 0.8 or 0.6 WTE working pattern.
Marthas Rule is an initiative aimed at enhancing patient safety and empowering patients and their families in acute care, paediatrics, neonates and maternity across our Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for running specific projects that support Marthas Rule and the prevention, identification, escalation and response (PIER) to clinical deterioration, such as:
1. Work with the Head of Quality and healthcare teams to embed the improvement projects for Martha’s Rule and the deteriorating patient into business as usual (Newborn, Maternity, Paediatrics and Adults).
2. Provide expert guidance and support to healthcare teams in implementing Martha’s Rule
3. Monitor and evaluate the progress of the aims of Martha’s Rule, identifying best practice and areas for improvement
4. Facilitate training for healthcare staff on Martha’s Rule
5. Gather and analyse data to assess the impact of the initiative on patient outcomes
6. Report and disseminate learning on Martha’s Rule and the PIER approach to the deteriorating patient programme

  • Provide professional leadership to nurses, midwives and AHPs at all levels, acting as a role model within the Trust ensuring that competence in the PIER approach to clinical deterioration is both developed and maintained.
  • Provide a valuable experience to enhance professional skills in Quality Improvement methodology and experience
  • Work with a supportive and dedicated team of healthcare professionals
  • Provide assurance and reports to the Head of Quality and Deputy Director of Quality, that there is continuous improvement in the delivery of the project.
  • Provide highly visible, accessible, authoritative and an influential figure on whom staff, systems partners, and regional and national colleagues can rely, to ensure the programmes and projects delivered effectively and efficiently.
  • Provide professional leadership to nurses, midwives and AHPs at all levels, acting as a role model within the Trust ensuring that competence in managerial and clinical practice is both developed and maintained.
  • Provide assurance and reports to the Head of Quality and Deputy Director of Quality, that there is continuous improvement in the delivery of programmes and projects.
  • Work in partnership and collaboration with others internally and externally to ensure the process of improvement and delivery of programs and projects is carried out.
  • Provide nursing/midwifery/AHP leadership, set and maintain professional standards, provide professional advice and direction.
  • Have a proactive involvement in the delivery of the Trust Quality Improvement strategy.
  • Have a proactive involvement in the delivery of the Nursing, Midwifery and AHP excellence programmes (linked to Pathway to Excellence).
  • Support the wider nursing management team in other projects and roles as required.
