Description:

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Community Living, the Quality Life Assistant creates an open and inclusive environment with the residents that we support. We value supportive decision making with all our individuals, and compassion and empathy is a virtue!
The QLA provides direct support in a manner that is consistent with the Harbour Landing Village philosophy paired with personalized support plans. We encourage teamwork and open communication with our staff and our residents, while maintaining confidentiality.
Your role will include working with young adults with varying level of physical and cognitive ability. The position requires shift flexibility, requiring at times the needs to work evenings and nights. You will be required to accompany, and participate where appropriate, in various activities with the young adults that range from swimming to attending social events.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • The flexibility and willingness to learn.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to be patient.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Can respond effectively and appropriately in stressful situations.
  • Experience with tube feeding.
  • Creative and proactive.
  • Physically able to life 25 pounds or more, as well as able to withstand long standing and walking periods.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in the vulnerable sector

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct support to Young Adults relevant to their personal plans while monitoring the individual’s health concerns and emergencies
  • Provide a nurturing atmosphere for all residents connected to the Community Living care area.
  • Daily tasks, such as meal planning and preparation, managing and administering medications, and home maintenance.
  • Planning and implementing leisure activities
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and attend support training
  • Communicate effectively with the individual’s families, management and other support service representatives
  • Assume any additional responsibilities as directed by the manager and coordinator.
