Join our Power Transmission & Distribution team as a Quality Manager, supporting one of our major infrastructure projects between Fort Augustus and the Isle of Skye, and be part of our legacy.
As a Quality Manager, you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing the quality function for a high-profile project, which includes overseeing overhead line (OHL) and underground cable (UGC) works throughout Skye. Your expertise will ensure we deliver ‘Right First Time – Every Time’ quality, enabling our teams to consistently meet and exceed client expectations.
In this position, you will be a key member of the Project Leadership Team, providing functional leadership to project quality resources and acting as the quality expert on-site. You will build and maintain a robust quality network to support project delivery while driving efficiency and contributing to financial savings aligned with our project objectives.

What you’ll be doing

To ensure the project plans for delivering products and services Right First Time, which meet requirements every time, to support Built to Last philosophy, the “Elimination of Waste” and reduce the “Cost of Non-quality” through-

  • Providing quality leadership to deliver the Highways Quality Strategy
  • Establish a Right First -Time culture on the project, utilising the BB Group material.
  • Prepare, implement, and maintain the project Quality Management Plan(s) and associated processes that deliver Right First Time to project specification and requirements.
  • Producing project Assurance Plan(s) to support the delivery of project deliverables, handover, and Health & Safety File requirements.
  • Establishing quality related training, coaching & skills processes so that the project teams understand and manage the delivery quality expectations.
  • Ensuring the development, maintenance, and application of appropriate content for the PT&D BMS to meet the needs of the business whilst aligning with the requirements.
  • Driving the quality metrics and monitoring and reporting on project performance relating to Quality and agree (and monitor) management actions to drive performance improvements.
  • Ensuring the business is compliant with ISO 9001 and other client/industry/ quality related requirements.
  • Ensuring business has processes in place to meet gated lifecycle Quality BMS requirements.
  • Provision of Quality related training to equip the business with the skills to improve Quality performance.
  • Coaching & developing quality skills in business streams
  • Conduct audits, surveillances, and site quality tours, reporting on the results, and managing findings to closure.
  • Interfacing with audit function to support local processes.
  • Supporting the business unit external accreditation process (including ISO9001 and industry licences) to ensure it can operate in its chosen sector.
  • Undertaking investigations and implement effective root cause analysis where applicable.
  • Supporting the construction team establish inspection and test plans, through training, and progressive reviewing and commenting.
  • Representing the business in customer and external quality interfaces
  • Develop an organisation structure for managing quality, including establishing roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities within the project functions.
  • Establish an approach to manage quality related matters with the Supply Chain, that also includes delivering training on specialist quality subjects.
  • Ensuring the management of quality personnel competency, training, and development requirements
  • Facilitation of quality related improvement initiatives
  • Production of appropriate business Quality reports including KPIs and metrics, analysing results and reporting causes of failure to project management
  • Providing support to allow annual Management Reviews to be successfully conducted.
  • Challenging systems and processes to ensure best practice and continual improvement.
  • Ensuring a relentless focus on Zero Harm
  • Supporting the delivery of the sustainability roadmap

Who we’re looking for

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Quality subject matter expertise and proven track record in quality management
  • ISO 9001 Lead and/or Internal Auditor
  • Either a CQI Member or working towards membership
  • Confident in working with senior management and able to challenge existing ways of working to support business improvement.
  • The ability to provide leadership.
  • Build strong relationships with project leaders, delivery teams and functional leads.
  • The ability to coach and develop staff in key quality management skills.
  • Demonstrated root cause analysis and problem resolution capability.
  • A formal qualification in Quality Management e.g. Diploma in Quality Management (UK Chartered Quality Institute, British Standards Institute or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Previous experience of managing a team
  • Knowledge and experience within the sector
  • Competent user of modern office computer systems e.g., Microsoft Office
