Quality Systems Manager
The Role:
We are looking for our next Quality Systems Manager within our Quality Team. The Quality Systems Manager ensures that food safety and quality standards are met and aligned with legislation and customer requirements, establishing performance standards and audit controls.
The manager is responsible for ensuring consistent food safety & quality of production through the development and enforcement of good manufacturing practices, process validation, documentation provision and records management, and management of the multi-disciplinary teams.
The manager is responsible for implementing and continually improving conformance to our Food Safety & Quality Management System and other certifications, and regulatory licenses and permits. They lead, manage, and liase with cross-functional teams to achieve this objective and to embed a positive Food Safety & Quality Culture.
The manager spends ~ 20% of their time on the plant floor.

What You’ll Do:
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of food safety & quality management system.
- Ensures regulatory compliance (e.g. CFIA, FDA) and conformance with elected standards (e.g. ISO 9001, FSSC 22000, organic, Kosher, Halal, etc.). Ensures implementation, adherence, and continual improvement of Food Safety & Quality Management Systems.
- Manages multi-disciplinary teams to ensure conformance to the food safety & quality management System. Acts as: Food Safety (HACCP) Team Leader, Food Defense Coordinator, Recall Team member, Customer Complaint Manager, site Document Controller, Change Control Manager, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual
- Manages internal and external audits, management review, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) assessment, food safety / food defense / food fraud assessments, traceability and mass balance exercises, and other elements in the Food Safety & Quality Management System.
- Manages regular inspections and audits of plant facilities and outside warehouses to ensure ongoing compliance with certifications, regulatory and customer requirements.
- Establishes, implements, and continually improves appropriate documented information and records required by the food safety & quality management system and regulatory compliance. Prepares product and process food safety & quality reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Communicates these reports to appropriate management personnel, highlighting challenges and their resolution.
- Leads and efficiently resolves corrective action / preventive action (CAPA) plans for all non-conformities. Applies high-level root-cause and problem-solving skills at all levels. Sets task priorities and manages provides appropriate CAPA plans to solve issues. Communicate effectiveness of action plans continually improves processes.
- Manages supplier and incoming material conformance and finished product specifications.
- Ensures that finished products conform with all specifications and requirements.
- Maintains an effective food safety & quality Hold Program to appropriately categorize and resolve non-conforming product issues in inventory.
- Responsible for accurate, timely and effective product dispositions and communications of held products to stakeholders.
- Manages non-conforming product investigations and positive batch release program with stakeholders (Supply Chain, Customer Care, Sales, etc.).
- Verifies conformance to key performance indicators, preventive controls, pre-requisite programs, etc.
- Conducts food safety and quality risk assessments, as needed.
- Manages Total Quality tools (SDOL, RMQ, ONEDOC, etc.).
- Manages the food safety & quality – and organic - training programs.
- As site Document Controller, manages document control system. Provides training for users and authors.
- Provides expert advice and technical support on food safety & quality issues to stakeholders in support of the operations food safety & quality policies, objectives and targets
- Other duties as assigned by the organization.
What You’ll Need:
Education:
- Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, chemistry, microbiology, biosystems, or related discipline. A combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Training and/or Certification to a GFSI scheme: e.g. BRC lead auditor, SQF Practionner, FSSC 22000 lead auditor, etc.
- Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (desired)
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control or Quality Systems experience in the food and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing certification and customer food safety & quality audits.
- Experience managing regulatory inspections & compliance.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
