Description:

We’re looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Natural Resources Team working on our Thames Water framework. With the option to work from home you’ll also need to visit our sites and offices with the main focus being Grendon Underwood in Buckinghamshire.
Location: Working from home with travel across in Buckinghamshire
Contract: Permanent, Full Time – flexible and part-time hours may be available if desired, just let us know

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Quantity Surveyor you’ll work for Thames Water under an Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Burgundy Book contract. You’ll play a pivotal role in managing the costs and contractual arrangements associated with water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Your day to day will include:

  • Preparing project budgets, developing cost plans, and estimating the quantities and costs of materials, time and labour required for the projects.
  • Understanding and implementing the contractual obligations and rights stipulated in the IChemE Burgundy Book.
  • Working on the procurement process which includes preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and helping select contractors and subcontractors.
  • Negotiating contract terms with clients, contractors, and other relevant parties. Ensuring that the terms are favourable, equitable, and aligned with the project’s objectives and constraints.
  • Assessing project plans to ensure cost efficiency and value for money. Recommending changes or alternatives that may provide better value without compromising quality or project aims.
  • Managing payments to contractors, including assessing claims, valuing completed work, and arranging for payments.

This role of Quantity Surveyor is great for you if:

  • Degree in quantity surveying, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the IChemE Burgundy Book and experience in water/wastewater projects are preferable.
  • Excellent numeracy and financial management skills.
  • Experience in standard forms of contracts and cost control processes.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in quantity surveying software and standard office applications
