JOB SUMMARY:

As a key member of the R&D team, R&D Fabrication & Prototype Engineer will oversee the fabrication and prototyping of new products, provide engineering support to production, and collaborate on custom solutions. They will manage workshop operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory, and safety compliance. Additionally, they will lead continuous improvement initiatives, address production bottlenecks, and manage budgets for repairs and projects.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Proven, hands-on experience in a Mechanical Engineering, fabrication, or prototyping role, ideally with a strong background in welding, machining, and workshop management. Relevant qualifications in an engineering discipline or substantial work-based experience in a similar role are essential.
  • Proficient in the safe operation and maintenance of workshop machinery, including milling machines, lathes, angle grinders, and welding equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of practical welding techniques (MIG, TIG) and steel fabrication processes.
  • Experience working with a variety of materials, including steel, timber, plastics, foam bonding, and various componentry. An innovative mindset toward exploring new materials and solutions is a plus.
  • Active involvement in internal product testing, specifically chairs, to meet safety, stability, and durability standards. Support includes designing and building test rigs, creating test plans, and developing testing methods as part of the R&D team.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, narrowing down practical solutions, material selection, and design for manufacturing principles.
  • Strong grasp of manufacturing capabilities and limitations, assembly methods, material selection, protective treatments, and the integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively while coordinating with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure clear collaboration and documentation.
  • Basic proficiency in IT tools, including email and reporting/communication platforms.
  • A meticulous and quality-driven approach to work.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and well-organized workshop environment.
