Description:
The Research & Development Lab Tech 1 is primarily responsible for assisting in the testing of Product & Resin Development films to enhance existing products and help bring new products to market. This role facilitates and assists in various projects by working closely with the R&D Engineer, Director of Research and Development, and the production teams to utilize various test methods, evaluate customer load units, and research and implement new test methods for evaluating stretch film. This role must be knowledgeable in and follow all procedures needed to ensure the proper safe and efficient operations of their production line. Position works under established guidelines and company policy.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY
- Knowledge of the production process to manufacture stretch film with progression through the production roles and demonstrated proficiency.
- Existing or ability to gain an in-depth knowledge of Paragon Film’s product line.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed role without constant, direct supervision.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment while adapting to a fast-paced environment and rapid changes.
- Able to juggle multiple tasks and handle unexpected delays or events while maintaining constant attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills combined with good problem-solving skills.
- Practice and promote teamwork within our organization.

- Ability to use hands including fingers to hold, touch, see, feel, grip, squeeze, push, pull.
- Ability to perform pushing, pulling, and forward exertion on a regular basis.
- Ability to have an overhead extension with arms on a regular basis.
- Ability to use enhanced levels of manual dexterity with arms and hands to operate industrial power tools occasionally.
- Ability to stand and walk continuously on a concrete floor for 8-hour or longer shifts.
- Ability to stand, crouch, stoop, bend, and squat frequently.
- Ability to kneel occasionally.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders occasionally.
- Ability to work on elevated platforms.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains proficiency with the computer programs and procedures used to process test rolls of film to ensure quality standards are being met while demonstrating a clear understanding of the testing process and the impact of continuous testing to the end user.
- Responsible for conducting and managing the process of testing films in Research & Development.
- Maintains consistent and unbiased testing of film products on different equipment including ESTL, Synergy, Highlight Test Cube, and ASTM Tensile testing.
- Ability to test new and current resins in our materials evaluation lab, conducting and managing the process using various resin testing equipment.
- Runs production lines with a focus on conducting resin experiments assisting with resin changeovers, monitoring processes, and troubleshoots issues in a resin experiment environment on all lines.
- Will safely and efficiently operate a forklift or pallet jack when required for film evaluation, test equipment, and other housekeeping duties.
- Ensures the testing, quarantine, and R&D sample areas remain clean and organized.
- Assists all departments in all phases of housekeeping as needed to ensure a safe and clean facility.
- Report any problems or damaged equipment on the premises to ensure proper safety and maintenance to management promptly.
- Performs other duties, projects, or other requests assigned by management.
