Description:

Our Materials and Fuels Performance Testing Branch is looking for R&D Technologists!

Responsibilities:

The technologist is required to conduct key tasks associated with mechanical testing of irradiated and unirradiated nuclear reactor material and fuel post irradiation examination related tasks. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Execution of laboratory experiments, which includes (i) planning, design and set-up of experimental systems, (ii) conducting experiments and generating data according to plan, (iii) interpretation, storage and reporting of laboratory results, (iv) programming of data acquisition systems, and (v) interfacing with branch professional staff and collaborators.
  • Design, fabrication and commissioning of complex experimental apparatus to support R&D material testing projects.
  • Preparation of precision specimens from irradiated and unirradiated material in laboratories and in hot cells.
  • Periodic handling and processing of samples of radioactive materials.
  • Develop and maintain experimental facilities for performing mechanical testing equipment in controlled environments
  • Maintain and repair contaminated experimental equipment in hot cells and active laboratories.
  • Participation in CNL, COG and commercial R&D programs as well as site support and component failure analyses on an as required basis.
  • Mentor junior technologists to develop technical skills
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
