Job Description:

The Role:
Our site in Toronto is seeking a R&D Scientist to join our new product development team. In this critical role, the R&D scientist is responsible for developing cost-effective, safe, and scalable synthetic routes for new chemical products. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity and innovation while managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Synthesize organic ligands, and main group/organometallic products consisting of phosphorus, silicon, and other main-group/transition metals;
  • Understand and optimize key reaction parameters to support process development;
  • Work with process engineers and scientists to support scale-up activities, which includes addressing reaction kinetics, chemical equilibriums, materials compatibility, thermodynamics, and mixing;
  • Use design of experiment methodologies to effectively and efficiently generate results that lead to valid conclusions;
  • Document experiments and results in an electronic laboratory notebook;
  • Prepare summary presentations for internal team meetings, business updates, and customers;
  • Work independently and also collaborate with peers and on cross-functional teams to achieve long-term project objectives.

What We Seek:

  • Organometallic/Main-group synthetic chemist with versatile skillset and an ability to learn new chemistries and methods.
  • Ph.D. in organometallic/main-group chemistry or related discipline required;
  • Post doctorate in organometallic chemistry or related discipline preferred;
  • Strong experience with both classic and modern bench-scale organometallic synthetic chemistry techniques;
  • Comfort and familiarity with handling air-sensitive materials (i.e. using Schlenk lines and glove boxes);
  • Experience interpreting complex analytical results, such as NMR, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, etc;
  • Independent and motivated team-player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous documentation habits with strong attention to detail;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with experience presenting results to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to advance multiple work tasks simultaneously towards completing long-term deliverables within strict deadlines;

Outstanding Candidates Will Have:

  • Ph.D. in organometallic/main group chemistry with 3+ years of industrial experience in chemical product development or manufacturing;
  • First-hand experience with chemical scale-up and optimization;
  • Experience with design of experiment (DOE) statistical methods and tools;
  • Demonstrated strong safety record and understanding and application of H&S principles in a laboratory environment
