Position: R&D Technologist Reports to: Director, R&D
We are looking for an R&D Technologist to join our R&D team! Our R&D Technologist will develop execute full-scale production testing and troubleshooting quality issues with the operations team on the manufacturing floor, and so much more!

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • You have a degree or Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Red Seal Baker or related discipline
  • You have a good knowledge of GDP (Good Documentation Practices)
  • You have a working knowledgeable of the structure and chemistry of food and standard food production processes
  • You have an understanding of formulations and how to manipulate formulas to derive data
  • You have solid computer skills including MS Office Suite

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years of R&D experience in a food production facility
  • Hands-on baking experience

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate new and existing products to meet objectives for sensory and nutritional attributes, quality, cost, timeline, and manufacturability
  • Identify opportunities for product and process improvement based on test results and observations
  • Design and conduct experiments to evaluate the impact of formulation, process and/or changes on finished product quality
  • Coordinate and supervise full-scale production testing to validate new and revised formulations, production parameters and packaging processes
  • Develop and validate new test methods for ingredients, work-in-process and finished products
  • Troubleshoot technical and production challenges using a combination of research, experimentation, data collection, statistical analysis, pattern analysis, and critical thought. Keep all records as per instruction
  • Maintain detailed, comprehensive records of formulations, process parameters, finished product results, sensory evaluation, and next steps in a lab notebook as per instruction
  • Monitor the sensory changes and microbiological shelf life of test products over time based on expected distribution and retail conditions
  • Identify and evaluate ingredients to determine functional and baking properties
  • Conduct technical literature searches, evaluate information/data, and prepare executive summaries, and technical report
  • Recommend, set up, calibrate, and operate basic and specialized laboratory equipment
