Description:

Calian is looking for a Radio Frequency Systems Specialist to provide expert support to the QETE 4 Electrical Engineering section. The specialist will focus on hazards of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance (HERO) and electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) consulting services. This role involves developing safety policies, conducting assessments, and providing technical analysis to ensure the safe and effective operation of electronic systems within electromagnetic environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must currently hold a Secret Level-II Government of Canada Security Clearance or be eligible to obtain one
  • Must have a university degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics from a recognized Canadian university or equivalent (as assessed by a recognized Canadian academic credentials assessment service if obtained outside Canada)
  • Must have a valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) Licence or a Limited Engineering Licence (LEL) from a Canadian provincial or territorial jurisdiction
  • Must have at least ten (10) years (120 months) of technical experience in Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) or related disciplines within the last 15 years. This includes experience in areas such as:
  • Must have technical experience (minimum of eight (8) projects or major tasks) in conducting tests, analyses, or assessments related to the technical applications of standards such as:
  • Must have a minimum of eight (8) years (96 months) of technical experience in the domain of Ammunition and Explosives (A&E) HERO Safety within the last ten (10) years. This includes experience in:
  • Must have extensive technical experience (minimum of two (2) projects or major tasks) during the eight (8) years of A&E experience, involving the evaluation of HERO-related characteristics of specific A&E items in service with or under procurement for the Canadian Armed Forces or other NATO nations

Responsibilities:

  • Develop HERO safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct HERO safety assessments of new and in-service A&E
  • Review, analyze, and assess test plans, procedures, reports, policies, and safety procedures
  • Conduct investigations and technical studies in support of the Departmental ASSB process and other Departmental, National, NATO, Five Eyes, and international working groups, committees, and action teams
  • Conduct HERO tests, investigations, and surveys; collect data; generate reports; and make recommendations
  • Collect, analyze, assess, and organize technical information on HERO, ESD, EMP, EMI, EMV, and lightning effects on A&E and associated weapon systems
  • Collect, analyze, assess, and organize electromagnetic environment (EME) technical information, including that produced by transmitters used by the CAF
  • Develop methods for testing and measuring A&E HERO characteristics
  • Develop methods for EME characterization and measurement, including surveys and analysis of EME produced by transmitters using digital and analog modulation schemes and other complex signals, such as radars, UWB, spread-spectrum, and frequency-hopping systems
  • Write CAF/DND policies, guidelines, directives, orders, instructions, and other documents related to HERO safety matters
  • Investigate HERO-related accidents or incidents
  • Prepare HERO safety training materials and deliver HERO safety courses
  • Review, analyze, and provide recommendations on LF/MF/HF/VHF/UHF system and sub-system interface documentation
  • Recommend solutions for discrepancies, deficiencies, and changes to equipment and specifications for LF/MF/HF/VHF/UHF systems
  • Liaise with LF/MF/HF/VHF/UHF sub-system technical groups to ensure system integrity, performance, reliability, and maintainability
  • Provide system integration, analysis, and evaluation services for LF/MF/HF/VHF/UHF systems
  • Prepare planning and procurement support documentation, including technical data specifications, plans and drawings, standards, and Statements of Work (SOWs) for interface and facility ancillary items
  • Conduct design, technical, and management reviews to monitor, advise, and report on progress and potential problems
  • Conduct integration testing and evaluation of LF/MF/HF/VHF/UHF systems
  • Analyze system deficiencies and recommend cost-effective solutions
  • Review and report on the suitability of industry documentation
  • Conduct technical definition studies and options analysis
