Description:

Clinical Responsibilities Assisting out-patients and in-patients prior, during and after their examination. Explaining the procedure and supporting the patients where necessary. Deal with upset and distressed patients in a positive and comforting manner. Inform clinical team of patients arriving for examination and provide general support before, during and after the examination.
To be responsible for the day to day running of clinics, in conjunction with the appropriate clinical team, that take place within the radiology departments based at Ashford and St Peters hospitals. To prepare the patient for diagnostic examinations and fulfil the requirements of correct patient identification, confidentiality and data protection. Utilise appropriate moving and handling aids to reduce the risk of injury to the patient and themselves. To maintain the highest possible standards of compassionate and professional patient care with particular attention to privacy and dignity.
Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Reassure the patient and explain procedures and preparations where necessary. Deal with upset and distressed patients in a positive and comforting manner. To deal with confused, distressed and elderly patients in a confidential and professional manner.
To assist radiologists, sonographers and Radiographers during interventional procedures in CT, X-ray, fluoroscopy and ultrasound where appropriate. To clean up after a procedure and prepare room for next examination i.e cleaning biopsy gun and appropriate disposal of sterile and non-sterile equipment. Communicate to the practitioner or healthcare professional changes observed in a patients condition. To clean the ultrasound machines daily and change the filter weekly.
Organise the transportation of patients to and from their examinations with the portering team. Follow departmental protocols to ensure clinical practice and general housekeeping duties (including the cleanliness of equipment and accessories) follow policies and procedures designed to prevent hospital acquired infection. Ensure that the patient waiting areas and changing cubicles are kept clean and tidy and clean gowns are available at all times. Education To maintain a personal continuous professional development, training and education portfolio in a proactive manner.
Ensure that all competencies are complete and updated to allow assistance in relevant interventional procedures within the department. Maintain continued competency in emergency resuscitation techniques, manual handling and fire regulations. To attend the appropriate mandatory training as required by the trust. To undertake training and mentoring of new staff in the department.
To participate in and undertake individual performance reviews and personal development in conjunction with the departmental manager. To understand the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure a safe working environment for patients, staff, visitors and staff according to the Trusts Health and Safety Policy. Clinical Governance Responsibilities Participate in an on-going programme of clinical and departmental audit and quality improvements. E.g.
induction training manual. To participate in and contribute to clinical audit and clinical governance initiatives. To adhere to the Code of Practice for ionising radiation and the local rules for Radiation Safety. General responsibilities To support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work
