The Radiology Technologist 1 provides direct supervision for the technical and support functions of a department within the Imaging division or department. Coordinates daily operations within their division or department to ensure that patient care services are delivered in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the hospital mission. The Supervisor of Radiology maintains the daily coordination of patient procedures and employee services including work schedules, competencies, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. The Supervisor maintains regulatory standards for the department and assists in performing non-supervisory duties as needed.

Training : Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program

Licensure : American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT); New Graduates - Registry Eligible for ARRT and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT) or current LSRT temp license; BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification

  • Clinical skills: Radiologic principles and theory, anatomy and pathology processes are demonstrated utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or position for optimal examinations, as demonstrated by exam results.
  • Policies and protocols are adhered to ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation, as demonstrated by exam results.
  • Sound radiography principles are taught to staff and students as required by organization and supervisors’ direct observation.
  • Appropriate adult/geriatric/pediatric/neonatal patient care is provided, and the technologist assesses and interprets data based on the patient’s status and the age-specific needs of each individual and demonstrated this by successfully completing age-specific checklist criteria.
  • Physicians’ orders, and reports are checked for inaccuracies and errors are reported to the RN or Charge Tech. The completeness and accuracy are evidenced by have no exams done without proper orders.

The Radiology Technologist 2 arranges patients for radiological examinations and performs advanced radiological procedures. Produces radiographs (x-rays) to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Uses pre-established imaging protocols and departmental policy to perform safe operation of imaging equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Able to evaluate competency level of others as preceptor. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.

Education : Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program

Licensure : American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; ARRT (R) Louisiana/Mississippi State License; Basic Life Support, BLS - HCP

  • Clinical skills
  • Exhibits working knowledge of all Diagnostic Radiology equipment and procedures.
  • Refers to physician’s orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated.
  • Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
  • Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
  • Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
  • Coordinates Radiology schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
  • Patient/General Safety
  • Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.
  • Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
  • Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
  • Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
  • Adheres to infection control practices.
  • Radiation safety
  • Ask females of childbearing age if they may be pregnant.
  • Uses proper Radiation shielding for pediatric patients and patients in childbearing age.
  • Routinely wears film badge to monitor Radiation exposure.
  • Complete Annual Mandate Radiation Safety
  • Wears proper Radiation protection equipment while doing procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance
  • Routinely performs proper tube warm-up for all x-ray equipment.
  • Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center.
  • Documentation/Communication
  • Complete Exam Data Entry fields on all exams
  • Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage of the Radiology Department
  • Assist in other areas of the department as workload permits.
  • Keeps areas well stocked at all times.
  • Provides imaging support for surgical procedures.
  • Assist Radiologist with interventional procedures.
  • Assist with clinical rotation of radiology program students.
