Description:

The Northamptonshire Centre for Oncology would like to hear from enthusiastic and capable individuals wanting to join our Radiotherapy Assistant Team.
There may be an opportunity for applicants who have an interest in developing their career and are in a position to apply for the degree apprenticeship programme to study to become a Therapeutic Radiographer. This would be for courses commencing March 2026 onwards.
We are a busy but friendly department situated within the Northampton General Hospital site providing the Radiotherapy service for cancer patients in Northamptonshire and surrounding areas.
A flexible approach and willingness to learn will be essential as our service is constantly adapting to stay at the cutting edge of Radiotherapy delivery and to meet patient needs.
To work within the Radiotherapy team planning and delivering radiotherapy treatments by assisting radiographers by carrying out non-radiographic tasks.
Ensuring that patients, their carers and other visitors to the Radiotherapy Department are given the best help and care possible
The successful applicant will support the radiotherapy staff under the direction of the Mould Room Manager and senior radiographers.
The role covers a wide variety of tasks some patient facing, such as making treatment shells for patients undergoing radiotherapy to the head and neck area.
Other aspects include scheduling patient appointments and managing the booking process.
You will be working closely with a wide variety of professional groups, including the Radiographers in the department, providing assistance and support to patients under-going procedures related to Radiotherapy treatment and planning.
You will also play a vital role in the clerical element of this work area, preparing notes, making appointments and liaising with the medical secretaries to ensure a smooth running work area.

Deputy Office Manager – Breast Screening Unit

Location: Forrest Centre, Northampton General Hospital
Schedule patient appointments, including any transport arrangements, throughout the radiotherapy pathway and communicate these arrangements to the patients.
Work with senior management to coordinate patient treatment to comply with national targets.
Carrying out tasks required for preparation, planning and administration of patients’ treatment.
Collecting and collating departmental statistics.
Other tasks which ensure a smooth workflow around the department, e.g. notes tracking, requesting bloods.
Providing reception cover including service days where extended hours are in operation.
Ensuring a smooth patient flow through the department in both the administrative and clinical aspects of the role.
Assisting in the impression and shell fitting processes in the mould room, while assisting and caring for patients during the process.
Provide advice and guidance to patients throughout the mould room process.
Manufacturing of treatment accessories.
Maintaining a safe and clean environment
Assisting the radiography staff by assisting and caring for patients during the procedure, under the supervision of the radiographers
Perform safe and effective manual handling procedures
Assisting in room preparation for treatment and pre-treatment procedures.
Stock control
Assist in the teaching and training of students and other trainees as appropriate
Provide explanation and instruction to visiting nursing and other staff regarding the work of the department
