Raging Waters Sydney - Maintenance Technician
About the role:
The Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of park facilities, including buildings, grounds, and various mechanical systems. This role requires a broad skill set in fitting, building maintenance, and the use of a wide variety of tools. While the primary focus is on general park maintenance, the role also includes secondary tasks related to the maintenance of pools and slides. The technician must have strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and the capacity to self-assess and prioritize tasks based on guest safety and operational requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Roles & Responsibilities

General Park Maintenance:

  • Perform facility-wide maintenance and related work on interiors, exteriors, and roofing of buildings and structures, restrooms, food buildings, and pump rooms.
  • Install, maintain, and rebuild a wide array of mechanical equipment, including pumps/motors and commercial kitchen equipment, to maintain safety and operational standards.
  • Lead and assist with daily carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical projects.
  • Perform equipment repairs related to electrical, plumbing, pumps, motors, welding, carpentry, fiberglass, and air conditioning/refrigeration.
  • Undertake general handyman tasks including painting, wall and concrete repairs, general plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Perform landscaping duties as assigned, including mowing, line trimming, grounds cleanup, pruning, and planting.
  • Perform general cleaning of the park and grounds, including pressure washing as necessary.
  • Maintain records to provide an up-to-date reference trail and comply with mandated requirements.
  • Report any maintenance, mechanical, and budget issues to the Director of Facilities promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and the Management Team.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) to carry out maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify and rectify defects in park facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure all work is completed within scheduled timeframes to guarantee a consistent standard of workload output and within budget.
  • Prioritize maintenance tasks based on guest safety and operational requirements.

Pool and Slide Maintenance (Secondary):

  • Conduct pre-opening inspections of all pools and slide structures to ensure safe operation and cleanliness.
  • Regularly check water readings, filters, pump valves, tanks, gauges, and vents.
  • Maintain and repair pumps, motors, and other pool plant room equipment.
  • Perform media changes and other pool service-related tasks.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs related to the pool and water systems.
  • Perform repair work in and around pools, filter rooms, chlorine rooms, and pool decks.
  • Supervise and participate in emergency repair situations.
  • Vacuum pools and brush deep ends.
  • Visually inspect all Pool equipment, ladders, and guard chairs, etc.
  • Test emergency lights in pool areas and locker rooms to ensure proper operation.
  • Order and receive supplies (e.g., chlorine, acid).
  • Grease water circulating pumps, filter pumps, and air blower units.
  • On a seasonal basis, clean and drain pools; winterize pools; drain water lines.
  • Conduct routine inspections to maintain pool water quality, including proper chemical and pH balance, to comply with safety and health requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain chemical inventory levels.
  • Test and monitor water quality and safely handle chemicals for water treatment.
  • Inspect and test all tubes to ensure compliance with specified inspection criteria.
  • Ensure all attractions are fully stocked with tubes daily, and assist with removal and repairs of tubes.
  • Remediate attraction caulking.
  • Service and clean attraction surfaces including areas leading up to the attraction.

Workplace Health & Safety (WHS):

  • Follow and comply with Work Health Safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Correctly use all safety and personal protective equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviours.
  • Report WHS incidents, injuries and safety activities to your direct Manager and First Aid at the time it occurs.
  • Promote proactive hazard/ near miss reporting. Report any hazards or near-miss incidents to your direct Manager and the People & Culture Director.
  • Attend Work Group Meetings to discuss and promote safety.

Requirements
Education:

Desirable

  • High School Certificate or equivalent trade certificate.
  • Manual Handling training.
  • Confined space training.
  • Working at heights training.

Languages: Fluent English

Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of hand and power tools, and landscaping equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge in fitting, building maintenance, and mechanical repairs.
  • Proficiency in general handyman tasks including painting, wall and concrete repairs, general plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Capacity to self-assess and prioritize tasks based on guest safety and operational requirements.
  • Ability to learn and apply park best practices to maintenance and operations.
  • Ability to prioritize projects in real-time with the park’s best interest in mind.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse array of guests and team members and desire to assist with and resolve questions, problems, issues, and concerns.
  • Ability to problem-solve, as well as research & draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.

Experience:

  • Background in a related trade such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, or landscaping.
  • Mechanic and welding experience.
  • Understanding of commercial pools, systems, and equipment (Desirable).
  • Ability to use a variety of hand, power tools and landscaping equipment.
  • Understanding of commercial pools, systems, and equipment.
  • Background in a related trade such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting or landscaping.
  • Mechanic and welding experience.
