Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary certificate or recognized vocational certificate in childcare/development or behaviour management with demonstrated successful practicum.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of prior experience working with complex learners, from grade 2-9.
  • Formal training and/or work experience in specific foundational reading and reading remediation.
  • Demonstrated success working in a school or tutoring setting.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to model self-emotional regulation skills effectively to support students in developing their own emotional regulation abilities.
  • Positive outcome of a current Criminal Record Check inclusive of Vulnerable Sectors check

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

CA is seeking a Reading Centre Educator/Educational Assistant to join our Learning Team on a Full-Time Continuous Basis starting for the 2024/2025 School Year.
The Reading Centre Educator will work with students in grades 2-9, to provide responsive literacy remediation support to students. This role involves working with students needing individualized supports and strategies, with an end goal to have students working at grade level.
Salary Range
This position’s starting annual salary is $49,034 to $52,000 and will be determined depending on a candidate’s experience and competencies.

HIGHLIGHTS OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver one-on-one or small group instruction focusing on reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and other literacy skills through implementing programs.
  • Implement personalized literacy plans that address specific challenges and learning goals for each student.
  • Utilize evidence-based strategies and resources to support readers and track their progress.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers, administration, and other educational professionals to establish a learning environment critical to student success.
  • Maintain student-centered decision making in designing individual and small group growth plans.
  • Understand student learning profiles and apply appropriate strategies and interventions.
  • Encourage an environment that fosters a love for reading, and passion for life-long learning.
  • Create and adapt instructional materials and resources tailored to the needs of students.
  • Stay updated on the latest research and best practices in literacy education to continually improve instructional methods.
  • Maintain detailed records of students’ progress, including assessments, observations, and achievement data.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in literacy education and related areas.
