SUMMARY:

Catholic Charities of San Antonio is seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as the R&P Program Housing Assistant. The Refugee Resettlement and Placement (R&P) Program Housing Assistant will play a pivotal role in assisting refugees to rebuild their lives and integrate into the local community successfully. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to manage program operations, collaborate with partners, and ensure the delivery of comprehensive services to refugees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Experience
o Minimum of 2 years’ experience in refugee resettlement or related fields.

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver’s license, with clean driving record
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Bilingual preferred

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of State and Federal Contracts and Grants.
  • Knowledge of Program Manuals and Operational Guidelines.
  • Knowledge of client files documentation and record keeping.
  • Skilled in using personal computer, various software, email, and internet.
  • A solid grasp of file documentation and record keeping.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and in a team.
  • Must have good written and verbal skills.
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to drive agency vehicles.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel requirements for the position include 50% local and 50% overnight.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Housing Coordinator in securing suitable housing or apartments for the new arrivals, while ensuring compliance with the Catholic Charities R&P program standards and home safety checklist.
  • Delivers information, shares available resources, and provides guidance to newly arrived clients regarding neighborhood, home/personal safety, maintenance requests, tenant rights/responsibilities, etc.
  • In the absence of the Housing Coordinator, the incumbent in this role manages the day-to-day tasks of the housing coordinator.
  • Conduct periodic visits to clients’ apartments to verify their adherence to Texas fair housing and living standards and the apartment complex standards.
  • Conducts a comprehensive evaluation of each client’s case to determine suitability based on factors such as clients’ physical condition, household size, neighborhood safety, sanitation, gender considerations, affordability, and alignment with program guidelines and requirements.
  • Assists clients during the period of the R&P program enrollment by addressing any housing-related concerns or challenges by liaising with leasing office staff members.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with the leasing office and community partners to expand housing resources and options.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and Employment Policy is mandatory.
