Description:
At the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County (Legal Aid SMC), we use the law to ensure that the social safety net works for everyone. We do this by representing clients as they navigate complex legal systems, empowering people to advocate for themselves, and fixing broken systems through policy change.
Legal Aid SMC seeks a reliable, bilingual, customer-service-focused person to join our Operations Team. This role reports to the Office Manager and provides administrative support for a dynamic nonprofit law firm. As the Receptionist, you’ll be the first point of contact for our office, the ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanor, strong organizational skills, and an eagerness to provide high-quality customer service to our clients and staff. You’ll work closely with our Administrative Assistant and Office Manager to ensure that the office runs smoothly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Spanish fluency (oral)
- 1 year of reception, customer service or equivalent experience
- Administrative work experience
- Familiarity with Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Organized and detail oriented
- Reliability and willingness to learn
Responsibilities:
- Reception – Primarily responsible for answering our main phone line and greeting, checking in or providing referrals to clients when they come in. Responsible for the upkeep of the lobby.
- Mail and Faxes – Receive, date-stamp, and distribute incoming mail. You’ll monitor the incoming fax folder and distribute as faxes come in.
- Files and Cases – Assign case numbers as requested, and close cases. Support the admin assistant as needed with case file maintenance.
- Administrative Office Support– Assist with program mail, correspondence, or other miscellaneous requests as assigned by the office manager. Manage the upkeep of our law books and keep a calendar of due dates for periodic staff reminders.
