Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Directly responsible for answering phones, taking messages, scheduling all patient appointments, entering patient data into the computer system, checking patients into the office, updating patient information/insurance information. Directs phone calls to Clinical Assistant(s) as appropriate. Comes in contact with all ages.
Will perform duties consistent with the needs of the communities served, in a manner that reflects the physical, psychological and spiritual healing ministry of Christ. QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
High school graduate and at least two years of college or business school preferred. Knowledge of coding, insurance billing procedures, medical terminology strongly desired. Prefer a minimum of 1 year in a healthcare related role.
Training:
Three months

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Responsibility:
Answering all phone calls within 3 rings, taking messages and routing to appropriate personnel. Greet patients, gather all/new patient information and prepare appropriate medical records, maintain neatness in reception area. Ensure accuracy of patients’ address and insurance information, update files accordingly. Prepare encounter forms and educates patients on required forms. Update appointment sheets with add-ons and cancellations as necessary. Record no-shows in patients’ chart and sending follow up letter if necessary. Assists Clinical Assistant with scheduling of referrals, outpatient procedures, etc. Monitor and distribute items that are faxed on a timely basis. Assists Practice Manager and Director of Medical Practice Management with additional responsibilities, as needed. Some travel required to provide appropriate coverage to other offices.
Special Demands:
Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate well in writing and verbally. Must have skills in performing multiple tasks at one time and organizing time. Efficient data entry required. Must have the ability to read and apply policies and procedures. Must be proficient in keyboarding and Windows operating system. Internal contacts with providers, staff, patients and family members. External contacts with billing office, other provider offices, hospital staff, payers. Tactfulness, judgment, courteousness, positive attitude, patience and the ability to work cooperatively with others required on an ongoing basis to adequately perform in this job. Maintains confidentiality, discusses patient data or other related work information only with authorized personnel or physicians in appropriate setting. Responsible for participation and compliance of departmental projects and tactics. Manual dexterity needed for handling office and computer equipment. Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values, and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude.
