QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Diploma in a related human / social service field.
- Knowledge of Assisted Living Regulations and their practical application.
Comprehensive understanding of the process of recovering from a substance use disorder.
Training and Experience
Two (2) years recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Training or experience in group facilitation.

Responsibilities:
POSITION PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Program Manager coordinates communication and daily program activities to create a safe, structured, and predictable therapeutic environment. Ensures that personal service plans are up to date and followed by residents, staff and volunteers, providing clarification and direction according to established instructions, policies, procedures, and Assisted Living regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates daily program activities and maintains program structure to preserve a predictable, safe, and therapeutic milieu, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, program standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Serves as the primary communication liaison between residents, staff, volunteers, and management, ensuring availability, clarity, and consistency of information.
- Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision and facilitate referrals to the program.
- Recognizes and respond to emergency situations, including escalating or aggressive behaviours, to ensure safety and security for all individuals.
- Attends case planning committee meetings to provide notes on resident’s progress, identified needs, strengths, and challenges, and the effectiveness of applied strategies, techniques, and approaches. Updates Personal Service Plans (PSPs) from committee recommendations.
- Facilitates understanding of and adherence to PSPs with staff and volunteers.
- Provides direct support to residents through motivational interviewing, appreciative inquiry, active listening, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, feedback, and psychosocial support.
- Meets with residents regularly to review and update program participation plans and helps identify program and community activities, services, and resources that align with resident’s PSPs.
- Exhibits and models appropriate and desired behaviour in the program, groups, and activities.
- Orients, trains, supports, and monitor volunteers, and clarifies their role and responsibilities as needed.
- Identifies needs in the program where volunteers could serve and requests volunteers from the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Assists the Program Manager to monitor and ensure that volunteers and staff complete required duties and comply with workplace health and safety requirements.
- Under the direction of the Program Manager and in collaboration with the Clinical Mental Health Specialist, plans, prepares, and conducts individual and group education sessions such as SMART recovery, Relapse Prevention, and Personal Development.
- Performs intakes and discharges in the absence of the Clinical Mental Health Specialist.
- Performs household duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment, and food services as required.
- Plans, prepares, and implements activities, special events.
- Makes recommendation to the manager regarding program development, policy and procedure formulation and program evaluation.
- In the absence of the Program Manager or as delegated by the Program Manager, monitors and authorizes program expenditures and maintains financial records in accordance to established procedures. Provides input to the supervisor in the preparation of the program budget.
- Provides all required reports to meet regulatory and funding requirements. Maintains logs, records and statistics and data such as personal information, intake and discharge records, and personal service plans.
- Performs other related duties as required.
