THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Casual Recreation Assistant to join our Sidney Care team!
JOB SUMMARY
Assists with activity programs to meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs / interests of residents by planning, implementing and evaluating programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 education
- Current First Aid certificate
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
- Ability to teach
About us:
Sidney Care is located on Vancouver Island in sunny Sidney, BC and offers residential care to 54 clients. Sidney Care has been in operation for many years and provides a home like environment to its residents. The facility was recently renovated and is tastefully decorated. Sidney Care works in collaboration with the Vancouver Island Health Authority, to ensure quality care to all of our clients.

Responsibilities:
- Participates in the organization, operation and promotion of recreation programs which includes assisting residents with activities such as outings, parties, exercises, crafts and entertainment.
- Transports and/or ambulates residents to and from activities.
- Promotes and publicizes upcoming events.
- Sets up furniture and equipment for recreation programs.
- Teaches activities such as arts and crafts, sports, music, games and exercises.
- Supervises residents during organized outings.
- Observes and reports any changes in a resident’s functional and cognitive behaviour to the nurse on duty.
- Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the designated supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
