This is recreational work of an administrative and supervisory nature in managing the operations of Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West and Swangard Stadium, as well as programming at other outdoor facilities. Responsibilities include developing, coordinating, participating in and directing recreational programs and services to meet the needs and requirements of the center, complex and area served. The Recreation Centre Supervisor 1 plans, assigns, checks and supervises the work of full-time and part-time staff engaged in recreational tasks, and hires, trains and develops staff as required; prepares budgets, monitors expenditures, directs the accounting and control of revenue and expenditures; directs facility rental and registration procedures; promotes and maintains effective working relationship with a variety of internal and external contacts, publicizes and promotes center programs and services; prepares and delivers talks to groups, schools, committees and others as required; assists in developing operating policies and regulations and establishes and implements new and improved work methods and procedures to ensure for the efficient and economical operations. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include university graduation in recreation or related discipline plus some related managerial experience in facility operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in operations. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the operation and management of a recreational center and/or components of a recreation complex; of the rules, regulations, policies and requirements governing operations. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate and manage the operations, programs and services of a recreational center and/or components of a recreation complex under minimal supervision; to hire, train, supervise and motivate staff; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with groups, associations and the public, and speak effectively in public; and to prepare budgets, reports, records and correspondence, and direct the accounting and control of revenue and expenditures. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check.
Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Occasional evenings and weekends during special events.
