Description:
JOB SUMMARY
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to develop their clinical skills in a role that makes a positive impact in people’s lives within an innovative and pioneering CAMHS service. This one-year fixed term training post is for experienced mental health clinicians to work as a ‘Recruit to Train’ therapist and Senior Mental Health Practitioner within a community CAMHS team or within a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) with other clinicians delivering evidence-based interventions.
This post provides the opportunity to complete the Children and Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) post grad diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that is being run in collaboration with the University of Reading. The successful candidates will study at the University of Reading, learning how to deliver CBT interventions for young people with anxiety or depression. The trainee will also be working as Senior Mental Health Practitioner within one of the varied CAMHS community teams for the duration of the one year course and would split their time between attending university teaching days and carrying out clinical work within their teams. After successful completion of the course the fixed term training contract will end however applicants would be encouraged to apply for any vacant posts within the service.

THE TRAINING LEADS TO A BABCP LEVEL 2 POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN CBT.
Hours:One year fixed term training post. Full Time (Minimum of 0.8wte - 30 hours per week accepted due to University course commitments). Trainees working the full five days will have one dedicated to wider CAMHS service delivery work.
Location:To be confirmed on offer of appointment, however bases will be with in one of the Hampshire CAMHS teams in the North (Basingstoke) West (Eastleigh/New Forest/Winchester and Test Valley) or South East (Fareham/Havant) of Hampshire.
Course Requirements:
The course you will be completing at the University of Reading as part of this role is a Level 2 accredited course with BABCP. This means that upon completion trainees will meet criteria to apply for provisional accreditation as a CBT therapist with the BABCP.
To apply, you must meet the criteria for CBT training and also have a BABCP-recognised professional background in mental health or related areas. This means having a recognised Core Profession. If you have a Core Profession (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work) please see the attached documentation for more information about requirements for your specific background.
If you do not have a Core Profession, you must complete a portfolio of evidence to show that you have equivalent training and experience. This is known as the Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes portfolio (KSA). If applying via the KSA route, you must have completed a self-statement for KSA criterion 4 before interview and, if successful at interview, will need to prepare the other required sections ahead of the start of the course (including obtaining references). If you have undertaken low-intensity CBT training (e.g., PWP, CWP or EMHP) you must have at least 2 years’ experience between the exam board of your previous training (not just coursework completion or a letter from the department) and the start date of any high-intensity training. This is nationally mandated and is there are no exceptions; you will be asked to evidence your exam board date (or date of graduation certificate if no evidence of exam board) prior to invite to interview.”
Please note in this instance the course is not optional; there will be a joint interview process including University of Reading to appoint to these roles. The roles are dependent on meeting all course requirements.

Responsibilities:
The CBT course provides a thorough and robust cognitive behavioural theoretical base with particular focus on the protocols with the soundest evidence. In addition to providing practical, intensive and detailed skills training to facilitate skill development to a defined standard of competency, the course will aim to increase trainees’ knowledge base of theory and research in CBT and to promote a critical approach to the subject. It will aim to equip trainees to become skilled, creative and independent CBT practitioners who appropriately value and adhere to treatment protocols with fidelity.We provide a BABCP level 2 postgraduate diploma in CBT.
The training involves teaching blocks as well as weekly teaching and supervision days at the University of Reading. Applicants must be willing and able to travel.
The clinical work involves being part of a multi-disciplinary CAMHS team and successful candidates will carry their own caseload of CBT training cases. Workplace supervision will be provided weekly.
