The Opportunity - Recruitment & Communications Assistant - temporary
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement Job Classification: Clerk I
The Recruitment and Communications Assistant will contribute to the Recruitment Department’s initiatives over the summer and through the Fall term (May - Dec), by recruiting future Olds College students and preparing the department for the recruitment season, through on and off-campus recruitment event planning and attendance, prospective student communications through phone, email and in person, marketing material development, process reviews and data collection and analysis.
They provide support and assistance to the Recruitment department as a whole while learning about and developing proficiency in the area of student recruitment.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- A current Olds College student or recent graduate is preferred - this position is ideally suited for a Direct Field Study Placement.
- An interest in and experience with the Agriculture Industry is desirable.
- The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, positive and enthusiastic individual who takes pride in their work.
- The candidate should be detail-oriented and able to work well independently and within a team.
- Strong relationship building skills, communication and collaboration skills, and problem solving abilities are essential for this role.
- The successful candidate will be expected to actively engage with social media platforms, and their photo and content may be shared or posted for promotional or company-related purposes.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Current Criminal Reference check that is free of any offenses.

- Successful candidates must have a driver’s license.
- This role may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
- This role will include travel to recruitment events outside of Olds, Alberta.

Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare for, and attend student recruitment events, both on and off campus and through in-person and virtual formats. Develop relationships with prospective students, parents and other stakeholders, and clearly communicate information about program options and navigating the post-secondary system.
- Conduct campus tours for prospective students and other stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver dynamic and engaging presentations and marketing materials on Careers in Agriculture and Olds College Programs to prospective students in urban and rural venues, in collaboration with Recruitment Specialists and On-Campus Experience Coordinator, and the Marketing and Communications department.
- Respond to prospective student inquiries, at events, via telephone follow up, through email, and other sources as required.
- Assist with the review and updating of existing SOP and best-practice guides, inventory, presentation slides and other marketing materials, such as the viewbook and program postcards.
- Review recruitment data and statistics from previous years to assist with the development of the recruitment plan for the upcoming year. Suggest areas of focus for in-person and virtual recruitment efforts based on previous years’ data.
- Create newsletter templates and various tracking documents in preparation for the upcoming year. Cultivate technical proficiency in various communications platforms, including Google suite, Zoom and Simplycast.
