DESCRIPTION

The Refrigeration Designer / Drafter is a team-oriented, customer-focused, and technically competent individual with a high sense of urgency. The primary function of this role is to design and draft refrigeration (mechanical) systems for industrial and commercial facilities in either 2D or 3D. This position utilizes AutoCAD for design, including P&IDs and layout drawings. The Designer / Drafter coordinates with Project Managers, Engineers, and other disciplines.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with piping and/or ductwork layout
  • Experience with Industrial Refrigeration a plus
  • Experience in or willingness to learn Revit, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoDESK Construction Cloud & Build
  • Have good working knowledge within CAD drawings as related to:
  • Layer management and usage
  • Drawing scales as they relate to text, dimensions, lines, viewports, etc.
  • Plotting and Plot scales, etc.
  • Cross-Sections/Elevations
  • 3D design
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with respect to projects, CAD standards, etc. on a daily basis
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented with them
  • Ability to work as a team player and interact well with others
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Be dependable and detail orientated
  • Ability to travel as required

Responsibilities:

  • Layout and design of mechanical piping and equipment
  • Preparation of construction plan set drawings
  • Preparation of piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Coordinate design with other project disciplines
  • Create designs using AutoCAD and Plant 3D
  • Operate computer assisted design (AutoCAD) and drafting workstation
  • Make corrections if required and redline fabrication drawings for final publication
  • Assemble equipment from blueprints and verbal instructions
  • Coordinate and detail work in accordance with plans, specifications, and RC&E fabrication and drafting standards.
  • Develop clear and complete construction drawings under the direction of Project Engineers (Construction drawings include plan views, schedules, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), isometric drawings, elevations, and details).
  • Work in collaboration with Project Engineers to reduce cost of installation through efficient layout and careful planning of the project.
  • Create efficient layouts by eliminating unnecessary pipe and fitting.
  • Attend job meetings as requested by Project Managers and Project Engineers.
  • Thoroughly review and understand all project documents and the scope of work.
  • Provide accurate estimates for completion of assignments to Project Engineers.
  • Update piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) as part of OSHA’s required process safety information (PSI).
  • Cultivate a knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems and begin to assist Project Engineers in the design process.
  • Provide isometric drawings for documentation of process safety information (PSI).
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of drafting standards and processes.
