Join the Refugee Resettlement team as an Outreach Specialist. The Outreach Specialist is to engage with trauma-affected refugees and connect them to the Support Trauma Affected Refugee Program (STAR). You will serve as a bridge between the program and the refugee community, helping individuals access vital services, information, and support to rebuild their lives in a new homeland.
The Outreach Specialist is a critical link between the Support Trauma Affected Refugee Program and the refugee community. This role requires cultural sensitivity, strong communication skills, and a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of trauma-affected refugees during their resettlement journey.
TheExpertiseWe’re Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of experience social service setting or similar setting
- Community Health Worker Certification or willing to obtain within the first 3 months of hire
- Bilingual in any Refugee language
- Valid Texas Drivers License

- You have prior experience working with refugee populations, especially those who have experienced trauma.
- You have cultural competency and a deep understanding of trauma-informed care principles.
- You have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- You have proficiency in multiple languages, particularly those spoken by the refugee communities served, may be advantageous.
- You have the ability to work independently, initiate outreach efforts, and collaborate effectively with diverse communities.
- You have empathy, patience, and a commitment to helping refugees integrate and rebuild their lives.
What you Deliver
- You develop and implement outreach strategies to identify and engage trauma-affected clients within the Refugee Resettlement community. Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, religious institutions, and local leaders to facilitate outreach efforts. Participates in community events to engage prospective clients and encourage submittal of program applications.
- You distributeprogram information to community partners, prospective clients and locations where prospective clients may congregate to promote community knowledge and interest resulting an acceptable level of program applications.
- You conduct initial assessments to identify trauma-affected clients needs and preferences for services. Collaborate with Refugee Resettlement program case managers to ensure a comprehensive understanding of clients’ backgrounds and challenges.
- You educate clients about the Support Trauma Affected Refugee Program, its services, and benefits. Provide information and materials in a culturally sensitive manner to raise awareness and promote program participation.
- You assist clients in navigating the resettlement process, including access to housing, healthcare, legal services, and social benefits. Facilitate client internal referrals to appropriate programs and service within the Agency, ensuring seamless access to resources.
- You act as a cultural liaison, bridging the gap between clients and service providers, advocating for clients’ cultural and linguistic needs. Promote culturally sensitive practices in all aspects of program engagement.
- You maintain accurate records of outreach activities and client interactions. Prepare regular reports on outreach outcomes and challenges for program management and funders. Inputs pertinent client data in designated agency database.
- You offer emotional support and encouragement to clients, helping them overcome barriers to participation in the program. Address clients’ questions, concerns, and cultural misunderstandings related to the program.
- You collaborate with Refugee Resettlement program staff and local crisis intervention teams to provide immediate support to clients in crisis situations. Ensure clients are connected to appropriate mental health and trauma care services with Catholic Charities Counseling Program.
- You provide training and guidance to community volunteers and staff on refugee issues, cultural sensitivity, and trauma-informed care. Stay informed about relevant policies, resources, and best practices related to refugee resettlement.
