Description:

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:

Requires Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education with emphasis in law enforcement, code enforcement or a closely related field.

Responsibilities:

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Investigates citizen complaints related to unlawful littering and dumping; participates in surveillance operations to monitor illegal dumping as necessary.
  • Locates, identifies and prosecutes individuals who violate County laws and regulations pertaining to illegal littering and dumping, and health and sanitary conditions; assists other law enforcement agencies with investigations as necessary.
  • Issues citations to violators and serves notices and summonses for non-compliance; provides court testimony as necessary.
  • Assists in regulating the transportation of refuse throughout the County to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
  • Inspects and monitors the County landfill for compliance with applicable regulations. Maintains assigned supplies, tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Participates in efforts to increase public awareness, understanding and support of section and division operations; educates the public regarding County and state litter and refuse regulations.
  • Prepares a variety of records and reports required by the division, department, County and/or other agencies.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, answering the telephone, etc.
  • Attends training, meetings, conferences, seminars, etc., as necessary to maintain job knowledge and skills; maintains required physical fitness and required level of proficiency in the use of firearms.
  • Assists in drop off site operation.
