QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/JOB REQUIREMENTS (ABOUT YOU):
- 7 – 10 years progressive leadership experience in accounting and financial management.
- Experience managing a large multi-site business
- Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in a related or relevant field, Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum recognized professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
- Proficiency with accounting software, word processing and spreadsheets
- Intermediate expertise with Microsoft Office products

Responsibilities:
ROLE:
The CFO is the lead finance individual and member of the Regional Leadership Team who functions as a business partner to the Regional President. As the trusted advisor, the role provides overall financial leadership responsible for providing effective control, and oversight of the organizations finances while actively contributing to its future direction and growth. Specifically, the CFO leads the finance and accounting team in preparation of financial reports and briefings including P&L, Balance Sheets and cash flow statements. Facilitate the business planning of the region as well as monitors and explains any performance gaps. Help identify operational improvements and critical action plans to address any performance issues vs annual budget. Leads, coaches and performance manage the Finance and Accounting Teams. Evaluates and prepares business cases for capital expenditures and other strategic initiatives. Designs, streamlines and supervises “best practice” financial KPI’s. The CFO is also responsible for the wider control environment including the safeguarding of company assets, key system-controls and overall compliance with Sysco’s required SOX obligations.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Providing leadership, direction and management of the Accounting, Finance, Credit, and Inventory Control teams (typically 30-50 associates per region)
- Business Partner to the Regional President and entire leadership team
- Execution of Budgeting/Planning and Key Initiatives
- Provide leadership related to the execution and monitoring of the annual plan, business transformation initiatives, and operational initiatives for locations within the Region.
- Execute the Region’s implementation of the new financial reporting system including conversion activities and adoption of new reporting tools.
- Ensure standardization of accounting practices, procedures and reporting within the Region.
- Provide the Regional President and management team a clear analysis of the impact of key actions to financial results.
- Identify, with the Regional President and senior management teams, the key actions needed to affect the financial results and achieve plan.
- Analyze Operating Results
- Lead the preparation of ongoing, rolling 18 month forecasts each month projecting the volumes, expenses and profit for the region
- Review and explain weekly operating results to Management team and other customers
- Monitor and evaluate the contribution of all departments to operating results
- Develop fact-based action plans to achieve planned financial results
- Monitor action plans to ensure planned and long-term results are attained
- Advising on long-term business and financial planning
- Create business cases as required and submit formal requests for capital committee approval ensuring the financial returns are within Sysco expectations.
- Establishing and developing relations with senior management as well as external partners and stakeholders
- Performing risk management
- Ensure standardization, consistency and compliance with FAMM across the Region.
- Certification of Monthly and Quarterly SOX requirements
- Conduct annual self-assessment process and mitigate any control deficiencies
- Ensure all reconciliations are performed monthly for all locations.
- Ensure accounting period-end accruals are correct.
- Ensure proper controls exist to safeguard physical assets and cash
- Oversee management of the credit function
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve planned DSO targets.
- Establish and maintain credit and collection policies
- Ensure adequacy of the allowance for doubtful accounts.
- Other:
- Set goals, review performance, and lead finance staff using Sysco’s performance management system CMP
- Proactively train employees on best business practices
- Perform financial functions necessary to support Regional sales activities, including business reviews, transfers, and customer relations activities.
- Lead projects and perform other duties as directed by the Regional President and Canadian CFO
- Responsible for a business portfolio surpassing $500M (may be significantly higher dependent on region)
- Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
