SKILL/CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

  • Significant demonstrable experience in Project Management, leadership and mentoring
  • A reputation for getting things done and an understanding for the importance of time and motion
  • Charismatic and determined to think logically, problem solve, connect customers and drive projects to completion
  • Proven organisational and planning skills including scheduling, budget and scope management
  • Professional qualification in project management such as APM or other is desirable

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

We’re looking for experienced, self-motivated, and engaging individuals with significant, proven experience running projects to project manage the company’s major infrastructure projects. Reporting into the Chief Operations officer you will be responsible for overseeing a team of Network planners and Land Access Planners to help build & plan our Somerset network. Success will be measured by the number of projects completed on time, within budget where we exceed our customer adoption expectations and leave communities as fans of the business.
This is a practical, leadership and delivery focussed Project Management role where you will be expected to be the master of the detail of the projects under your remit – this certainly isn’t a Project Management by spreadsheet role and will require real leadership skills. You will be given authority to think outside the box and expected to provide practical solutions to deal with challenges and conflicting priorities to ensure deliveries don’t get blown off track. Previous experience in a construction or operational problem-solving role is essential but we can teach you everything you need to know about fibre.
The Senior Project Manager will be ultimately responsible for the successful delivery of project builds and the development of junior Project Managers here at Wessex Internet so strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete responsibility for on time and on budget, end to end, delivery of specific projects
  • Lead in the delivery and completion of projects; setting the example and mentoring junior Project Managers
  • Contribute to the Strategic scheduling of future projects, adding real time considerations around resource allocation and timescales to deliver projects
  • Ensure stakeholders appointed to your delivery area are pulled together jell as a team under your leadership, this includes: o Leading the appointed Planning and Design teams to drive the planning stage through to a timely completion, ensuring they are using on-the-ground practical thinking and problem solving to foresee and overcome potential delays and challenges
  • Working day-to-day in the field with your Foreman and Supervisors, running multiple Build phases, to ensure they have the resources and detail they need to deliver the Build
  • Liaising with your Community Engagement Manager in order to maximise sign up rates and customer connections
  • Liaising with the Tech team to ensure active equipment goes live simultaneously with build completion
  • Managing Project’s success through the three key phases: o Pre-Construction: driving design and community engagement to ensure the project is ready for build and the customer energy is gaining momentum as we arrive for build
  • During Build: drive projects through to completion creating solutions to roadblocks and stakeholder challenges.
  • Project Completion: ensure all moving parts come together to get customers signed up and connected without unnecessary delays.
  • Work with strategy team, using your detailed knowledge to target and prioritise resource onto the projects that maximise customer connections and flag any projects drifting outside commercial expectations for descope
  • Ensure effective reporting of all projects under your control, allowing effective communication to communities, potential customers, and all stakeholders alike.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working in accordance with CDM and the wider Health and Safety requirements for WI Employees and Customers
  • Understand and ensure relevant legislation, specification and requirements are being upheld and communicated
  • Define and develop new project processes along with continuous improvements
  • Own the project change and risk management processes and timely escalations
  • Ensure the project is delivered in line with business objectives (time, cost, quality) through effective governance
