The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan has a key focus on multi-professional advanced practice for further developing and expanding the healthcare workforce to expedite access to care and improve outcomes and experiences for patients, and their carers and families.
The Midlands region of NHS England Workforce, Training and Education is looking for an inspirational advanced practitioner leader for the post of Regional Faculty Lead for Advancing Practice for its Faculty for Advancing Practice.

This is a high-profile leadership role requiring a passion for and detailed understanding of the multi-professional advanced practice agenda, an appreciation of the spectrum of advanced practitioner roles, and awareness of the continuum of advancing practice, in addition to sound programme management expertise.
You will drive the advancing practice agenda regionally, actively promoting advanced practitioners as part of local workforce solutions and be responsible and accountable for the operation of the Midlands regional Faculty for Advancing Practice and successful delivery of its objectives, including commissioning of advanced practice education and training .
The Midlands Faculty for Advancing Practice is one of seven regional faculties which are linked with the Centre for Advancing Practice. Their unifying purpose is to supervise and regularise the implementation of advanced level practice. The Centre and regional faculties primarily focus on developing on a standardised basis a well-established and discrete group of advanced practitioners within the workforce.
The Centre for Advancing Practice collaborates closely with its seven regional Faculties for Advancing Practice, which operate within the seven NHS regions. Together, they support employers in effectively integrating advanced practitioners into hospitals, primary care, and community settings. These combined efforts play a crucial role in ensuring public safety by standardising the education and training and utilisation of advanced practitioners.
The appointee will lead the Midlands Faculty for Advancing for Advancing Practice which is part of the Clinical Leadership and Education function of NHS England Workforce, Education and Training. The Faculty comprises two Senior Advancing Practice Supervision and Assessment Leads, a Clinical Leadership and Education Manager, a Clinical Leadership and Education Officer, and a Clinical Leadership Education and Administrator. The Faculty is supported by its team of advanced practice Training Programme Directors working in a range of speciality areas.

The Workforce Training and Education (WT&E) Midlands Regional Directorate is designed to support and enable the new NHS England to deliver on its purpose to deliver high-quality services for all. Our purpose is to ensure the NHS in the Region has a sufficient and inclusive workforce with the knowledge, skills, values, and behaviours to deliver compassionate high-quality health and care to the people it serves.
We are looking for a highly organised and flexible Regional Faculty Lead for Advancing Practice, capable of using their own advanced practice skills and expertise to co-ordinate and support successful delivery of the advancing practice portfolio at regional and sub-regional level. This is a multi-professional approach, and the successful post holder must have an appreciation and respect for the different professions alongside a desire to maximise the opportunities for all.
The role of Regional Faculty Lead for Advancing Practice sits within the Training and Education sub-directorate of WT&E across the Midlands. The purpose of the Training and Education sub-directorate is to manage an effective system for the planning and delivery of education and training for healthcare registrants.
You will be a self-motivated change agent with excellent attention to detail, a natural ability to build strong and effective multi professional partnerships, plan, be keen to apply and grow your excellent organisational skills and be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels. Successful delivery is dependent on collaborative working so the ability to demonstrate strong communication skills and develop enduring stakeholder relations across the health and care system is essential.
Educated to Master’s level and a healthcare registrant, with extensive experience in advanced practice from either clinical and/or academic contexts you will be able to demonstrate a robust understanding of contemporary advancing practice and be able to evidence strong organisational and budgetary skills.
You will be an experienced advanced practitioner, registered with a statutory healthcare regulator , be self-motivated with excellent attention to detail, a natural ability to build effective multi professional partnerships, plan, be keen to apply and grow your excellent organisational skills and be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels.
This role will provide excellent leadership to drive the national advancing practice agenda locally and actively promote advanced practitioners as part of workforce solutions that support service change.

Responsibilities:

provide advanced practice leadership and programme management expertise at a regional level (as determined by the policies, implementation plans and timescales of the Centre for Advancing Practice and NHS Long Term Workforce Plan.
have responsibility and accountability for the strategic and operational development of the Regional Faculty for Advancing Practice and ensure robust systems are in in place to implement and deliver its objectives.
proactively manage the key risks and issues associated with the regional delivery plan ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond.
actively engage with the Centre for Advancing Practice as part of its formal governance arrangements working alongside other Regional Advancing Practice Leads.
act as a conduit of information between the Centre for Advancing Practice, WT&E regional and national teams including working with other regional programme leads regional representatives in the Arm’s Length Bodies and the ICSs to ensure advanced practice is embedded and delivered across all priority areas.
working in partnership with the existing regional enabling functions actively support the Regional Director, Advancing Practice Senior Responsible Officer (SRO), Head of Centre for Advancing Practice, and Head of Multi-professional Advancing Practice in carrying out duties across the region and sub-region in relation to the advancing practice workforce.
develop the relationship and engagement strategy to facilitate local health and social care systems including ICSs to recognise the importance of advancing practice in service transformation, using knowledge and experience to drive modernised transformed pathways of care and support the system in developing actionable solutions.
manage the budgetary aspects of the Faculty ensuring commissioning and financial management processes are in place, based on nationally agreed principles, to drive value and efficacy and demonstrate return on investment.
ensure the Faculty strategy is implemented, understood by all stakeholders, and is delivered utilising all available resources efficiently and effectively and with patient safety at its core.
working with workforce planning and business intelligence colleagues engage with the health and social care system to identify current and future advanced practitioner demand and supply and optimise workforce intelligence and modelling to demonstrate impact on patient care.
provide support and advice to ICS members on the development of the existing and future workforce and the delivery of the transformation plan outcomes, ensuring that planning assumptions are shared and widely understood across the regional health and social care system.
lead the regional team to ensure alignment with the Centre for Advancing Practice, WT&E and ICS priorities and programmes. Ensuring they are planned and carried out effectively and are providing an efficient, effective, and high quality professional and well-co-ordinated service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements.
The post holder will be accountable to the Deputy Director of Clinical Leadership and Education, and report to the Assistant Director of Clinical Leadership and Education: AHP and AP.
