  • Experience of working in a specialised and demanding business which required them to work to tight deadlines and demonstrate a high level of commitment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A proven track record of fleet engineering and management of fleet compliance, as well as third party repair agents.
  • A relevant engineering qualification.
  • A sound knowledge of modern commercial vehicles with a strong practical background.
  • Experience of managing budgets and the ability to understand the financial impact and opportunities of decisions taken in providing low cost solutions.
  • Commercial and financial awareness and acumen.

Responsibilities:

Based at BCA Automotive Portbury Depot, the Regional Fleet Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and performance of the fleet of trucks and trailers, with regular travel required throughout the midlands / south of England.

Reporting to the Fleet Director & Head of Vehicle & VMU Compliance, the post holder’s key responsibilities will be:

  • Understanding the budget and spend responsibility for the fleet which fall within the southern region.
  • Managing the cost, performance, and quality of work provided by internal and external repair agents maintaining the southern fleet.
  • Monitoring and ensuring ongoing fleet compliance in relation to operating licence requirements, including but not limited to:
  • Routine service and MOT timelines and scheduling,
  • Achieving the required MOT high pass rate,
  • Achieving annual Loler certification,
  • Systems updates and the scheduling of vehicle status and work to be undertaken.
  • Delivering and exceeding high standards of vehicle maintenance, cost control and compliance across in house and third party vehicle maintenance facilities, of numerous external repair agents.
  • Maximising fleet utilisation and working closely with operational management to ensure that the correct commercial decisions are taken in balancing cost versus downtime.
  • Achieving Company standards and identifying improvements in all aspects of the engineering function including vehicle load factors, safety, maintenance, inspection, stores, health and safety, work quality, and cost control.
  • Implementing and delivering preventative maintenance techniques which result in improved reliability and cost.
  • Managing relationships and work with truck and trailer manufacturers to introduce industry leading innovation and technology, and resolve issues in relation to new equipment introduced.
  • Ensuring that all vehicle records are maintained to DVSA standards.
  • Complying with Company standards with regards to Health and Safety and quality engineering systems.
  • Update and report on daily VORs in the South West region.
  • Provide cover for other Engineers when on annual leave.
  • Be responsible for occasional weekend on call coverage for breakdowns and repairs.
