Description:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a physician who is eligible for or possesses an unrestricted practice licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Advanced education or experience with healthcare management, administration or medical education is considered an asset.
  • Experience in leadership or administration.
  • Experience practicing in southern Alberta or another rural region is preferred.
  • Experience in a distributed medical education setting is an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and regulatory requirements for medical education programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and problem-solve in a dynamic environment.
  • Upholds principles of reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
    Note: The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
    A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.

Responsibilities:

PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Deputy Provost, University of Lethbridge and the Senior Associate Dean Education, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, the Regional Lead will provide strategic and operational, and leadership skills to develop and implement the Southern Alberta Medical Program, supporting medical education training in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Indigenous and rural communities throughout Southern Alberta.
The successful candidate is a physician who will be based in Lethbridge, Alberta, and will serve as a liaison between the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM), University of Lethbridge (UofL), external partners, and counterparts at the University of Alberta (UofA), Northwestern Polytechnic and Northern Alberta Medical Program (NAMP) to develop and launch a high-quality rural distributed medical education program.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Deputy Provost (UofL) and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education (UofC) in finalizing the Memorandum of Agreement between the University of Lethbridge and University of Calgary.
  • Develops multi-year plans and budgets for SAMP implementation in alignment with CSM frameworks.
  • Provides strategic advice on planning priorities, budgetary matters, and emerging opportunities.
  • Fosters a psychologically safe and culturally competent work environment.
  • Collaborates with the Regional Project Manager on day-to-day operations.
  • Works within a matrix reporting relationship with CSM and UofL. Maintain strong communications with all of the relevant units at CSM
