QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates must have post-secondary education (Master’s degree preferred) supplemented with a minimum of 5 years of relevant international experience, particularly with regard to international relations, and preferably in a post-secondary education context.
- The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate an advanced ability to work in cross-cultural settings, particularly as relevant to the region. A history of strong research, analytical and writing skills is required.
- In addition to English, fluency in a second language of the region is required. Experience living, studying and/or working in Asia is preferred.
- The successful candidate must also have demonstrated experience in the coordination of international business travel and ability to handle complex logistical planning.
- The ability to manage time well, meet multiple deadlines, and prioritize projects is essential in this position.
- International travel will be required.

Responsibilities:
- Facilitates the development of an institutional international regional strategy that advances UAlberta’s strategic objectives.
- Informed by an in-depth knowledge of the region, and local, Canadian, and global context, offers data-driven, senior professional level expertise to advise UAlberta administrative and academic leaders on a) the development of partnerships and opportunities that advance strategic objectives; b) regional demand for new/existing UAlberta programs; and c) issues, trends, and key factors in the region, impacting student recruitment, security, revenue generation, potential partnerships, research funding sources, global profile building and brand awareness, and partnerships for the promotion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Proposes programs and strategies to address these contexts.
- Proactively, and collaboratively with other UAlberta stakeholders, develops, manages, and stewards institutional relationships and partnerships in the region, and works with partners to define collaborative plans in support of institutional strategic objectives, including growth in revenue generation, student recruitment, research funding, and partnerships for sustainability.
- Leads and manages the development and implementation of institutional level international events, missions and visits, related to the region, including communicating with senior administration and college/faculty representatives about mission/visit objectives, preparing itineraries and briefing materials, booking travel arrangements, and completing follow-up activities.
- Identifies, assesses and reviews all new potential partnerships with international institutions and agencies for the region.
- Researches regional issues related to higher education and monitors the political, economic and security activities of the region as they may affect University of Alberta interests and/or objectives.
- Provides advice and assistance to colleges, faculties, and administrative units within the University that seek funding support for activities in the region.
- Negotiates international agreements with partners, in collaboration with UAlberta stakeholders and the International Agreements team within the Global Engagement unit.
- Provides timely and accurate reporting on global engagement activities within the region, contributes regional perspective to Global Engagement reporting documents, and produces briefing notes, speaking notes, and other region-specific communications for campus stakeholders as required.
