Our Risk and Compliance function has a critical role to play in supporting, challenging and advising across all areas of the business through establishing policy, monitoring profiles, and identifying and managing forward-looking risk and compliance. We focus on creating an environment that encourages our people to speak up and do the right thing, as well as protecting our customers, the organisation and the integrity of the financial markets in which we operate. Already an industry-leader in many respects, we want to continue setting standards and evolving to respond to strategic changes.
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the ESG Regional Team in the role of Regional Risk Strategy Assistant Manager in Climate Risk for HSBC Europe (HBEU).
Climate and Environmental Risk is an important area of regulatory focus in HSBC Europe. HSBC’s response to Climate Change is a sensitive and high-profile area of considerable interest to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Climate Change poses different risks to the stability of the financial system and these risks are collectively referred to as Climate and Environmental Risk. The requirement to identify and manage impacts from Climate Change results in necessary changes to our risk management framework, risk appetite, data infrastructure, reporting and oversight arrangements.
As the Regional Risk Strategy Assistant Manager your primary responsibility will be to support the Senior Manager to deliver, in conjunction with the Business and Second line of Defence, a forward looking enterprise-wide ESG risk management in compliance with local regulatory, business and shareholder expectations across the HBEU region.
In this role, you will:
- Provide support to the Senior Manager in the governance, development, assessment and implementation of the Region’s approach to Environmental & Climate Risk management.
- Be a Climate and Environmental Risk subject matter expert, responding to Climate Risk queries from colleagues across the region.
- Assist in development, implementation and maintenance of data driven solutions to assist HBEU in effectively managing risk whilst delivering excellent customer outcomes; in particular, project-manage the implementation of the Climate Risk Programme with lines of business, Risk and IT. This includes ensuring effective communication and understanding of relevant changes across key stakeholder groups.
- Support the regulatory gap analysis to proactively flag and track regulations/deliveries
- Contribute to the development and production of Climate Risk management information (MI) to monitor the impact of risk decisions on customers and portfolio behaviour, and deliver accurate, logical and insightful commentary alongside the MI in particular around the Climate Risk (RAS) Risk Appetite Statement and KMI (Key Management Indications) including Greenwashing risk metrics
- Support the implementation of Climate Risk stress tests and of the new regulatory requirements related to the public disclosures / non-financial reporting of climate and environmental risks, coordinating actions across lines of business, Finance, Risk and IT. You will also support continued development and the rollout of training and engagement for Climate Risk and Sustainability Risk across 3LOD across HBEU

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Good understanding, interest and knowledge of Sustainability/ESG, and Climate Risk

- Knowledge and experience of the use and application of risk appetite tools
- Experience of GBM and / or CMB, in either 1LOD or 2LOD
- Be self-motivated and organised, with the ability to work independently, own specific deliverables, and work collaboratively and to solve complex problems.
