Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Works with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) to provide short-term, intensive behavior interventions for students in crisis. Works directly with students, data collection, helping school staff to engineer classrooms to provide structured behavior and visual supports, modeling behavioral interventions, and data for school staff, fading direct support as the skills of the staff increase. Works with classroom staff to increase their proficiency in the implementation of behavioral strategies and data collection based on interactions with the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).

QUALIFICATIONS

Open Requirements: Associate’s degree OR sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited college or university; OR High School diploma or equivalent and a passing score on the Para Pro assessment. One (1) year experience working with students exhibiting challenging behaviors.

Licensing: Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (or equivalent). Certification in district approved crisis management system prior to employment or within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles of measurement, data collection, and graphing
  • Knowledge of the principles of assessment, skill acquisition, behavior reduction, documentation and reporting and professional conduct and scope of practice
  • Knowledge of ethics related to responsible conduct, responsibility to clients, competence and service delivery as outlined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)
  • Knowledge of the key elements of a Functional Behavior Assessment
  • Strong skills in implementing positive behavior support plans
  • Strong data collection skills
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skills
  • Ability to use approved techniques while assisting in shaping and teaching appropriate behaviors to students
  • Ability to restrain a behaviorally complex student without injury to student or oneself using Professional Crisis Management techniques
  • Ability to implement discrete-trial teaching, naturalistic teaching procedures, task analyzed chaining procedures, discrimination training, stimulus control transfer procedures, stimulus fading procedures, prompt fading procedures and generalization and maintenance procedures
  • Ability to in identify the function of behaviors and develop interventions to shape more positive student behavior
  • Ability to use contingencies of reinforcement
  • Ability to relate to children
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimum supervision

Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in the collection and recording of student behaviors, progress, and related data.
  2. Communicates daily with district BCBA and classroom staff regarding student behavior and response to intervention.
  3. Assists district Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) to develop and implement Functional Behavior Assessment/Behavior Improvement Plans (FBA/BIP)
  4. Provides intensive behavior interventions for students with challenging behaviors.
  5. Models successful behavior intervention and data collection techniques for classroom staff.
  6. Assists classroom staff to engineer the classroom to provide structured behavioral and visual supports.
  7. Coaches classroom staff as behavior technician and BCBA support is faded.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
