HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As a Registered Building Inspector you will support the Council’s duty to enforce Building Regulations and associated legislation within South Gloucestershire. We are offering this as a career development opportunity and applications are open to RBO’s at all experience levels, which will reflect in your role duties and salary offered.
Working within a team, you will undertake restricted building control functions and check that proposals submitted under the Building Regulations and works carried out on site comply with the current legislation and codes of practice. Our work is varied, covering schools, large commercial projects and domestic housing, with approximately 1500 submissions a year of varying complexity.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- It is essential that you have a degree or equivalent building related qualification, or equivalent relevant experience.
- You must be registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2 category A (Domestic) as a minimum.
- We require you to have relevant practical experience, backed by evidence of appropriate specialist knowledge and the ability to understand technical problems.
- You will have experience of undertaking plan checking and site inspections.
- It is key that you have experience of Building Control computer software and demonstrate knowledge in the use of software packages including in house systems.
- You must be able to determine your own priorities in dealing with competing workloads.
- It is essential that you have excellent numerate, verbal and written communication skills to enable you to effectively convey complex technical matters.
Responsibilities:
- On a daily basis you will provide technical guidance and have responsibility for a set of cases or schemes which require the application of technical knowledge and compliance with regulations or procedures and codes of practice.
- You will plan and organise projects and cases to achieve defined technical outcomes, standards and timescales, assessing data to inform recommendations.
- Methodically considering design options and approaches, you will plan project implementation and manage delivery.
- In the role you will negotiate and make decisions with developers, consultants, other agencies and contractors to ensure that works are designed and constructed in accordance with appropriate standards.
- You will provide specialist advice to customers on interpreting and applying policies and technical principles, highlighting any implications, risks and benefits and solutions.
- You will be on the rota for out of hours response to dangerous structures, this will include working at night, which comes with an out of hours additional payment.
- This is a hybrid working role which is a mix of office, site and home working. You will be required to be office/site based for 50% of your working week.
