POSITION DESCRIPTION

In collaboration with the health care team, the Registered Dietitian will provide nutritional care to children/families by assessing nutritional status and identifying, preventing and rectifying nutritional problems. The area of coverage is the inpatient GIFT program (Group for the Improvement of Gastrointestinal Function and Treatment) and the outpatient Gastrointestinal Hepatology and Nutrition (GHN) clinic.

Responsibilities:

  • Assessment of infants, children and adolescents in the program- inpatient and ambulatory with attention to medical complications, and effects of malnutrition on growth & development
  • Provide appropriate and cost-efficient nutritional therapy to patients, including initiation and monitoring of parenteral and enteral nutrition support
  • Monitor the effectiveness of nutrition intervention and care
  • Act as a resource to the GIFT and GHN programs, patients/families, as well as other health care professionals and referral centers on nutrition education
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the GIFT/GHN teams to provide timely and patient specific recommendations and follow up for patients under the care of the GIFT/GHN teams.
